What did Edmonton expect would happen when they hired Howdy Doody to be their coach?

Oilers lose another, I hear McDavid went ape shit too. Bahaha enjoy!
Was he pissed at the loss or the fact he didn't get a point? :sarcasm:

Why not both?

Dont forget when he went after Miller, Miller punched back, so he ran away and turtled when another player went after him. Him, Drai and Woody all had some epic meltdowns tonight.

Never watched game so I don't know. Found it hilarious he comes back for the classic...Man if Oilers get a top 5 pick it's going to suck.
Is it going to matter though? McDrai wont stick around if they dont make the playoffs.

McDavid and Drai are great players no doubt, but I think Sid and Geno were on another level, especially when it comes to the postseason. Prime Sid and Geno were more impactful players at even strength and could carry middling wingers even when the checking got tight in the playoffs.

By contrast, McDavid and Drai often have to be played together in order for them to produce at even strength, which really makes it easy for opponents to line match during a long series. Furthermore, fewer penalties are called during the playoffs, which really limits McDrai's effectiveness in the postseason. Finally, both Sid and Geno stepped up their defensive game in the playoffs, something which McDrai have yet to show.

McDavid and Draisaitl produce at rates like Geno's '09 Cup run. The Oilers' problems are coaching, the blueline, and their goaltending. Or, coaching and their FO.

I just can't really agree that they're to blame. That organization has faceplanted time and time again, failing those two the entire way.

Get 'em outta that goofy organization already.

The problem is they play together most of the games which inflates their stats at the expense of balance throughout the lineup. Imagine if Sid and Geno played together during their 09 cup runs. Sure they would have had even more insane stats, but I don't think they win the cup by stacking one line. Also, they rely way too much on pp opportunities, which become increasingly hard to come by the deeper you go in the playoffs. 5v5 McDrai are just not as good as Sid and Geno.

It's a catch 22 though. They play together so often because the team needs to score a shitton of goals in order to win games with their defense and goaltending. Power play goals matter as much as ES goals, as Pens fans we should know how important a good power play is.

I don't think Edmonton's like "lol get these guys points at the expense of depth/winning" or anything. They kinda have to. It's like when the team has played Sid and Geno together in desperation time, in order to try and shift the tide of the game or get a goal or two when trailing. It's that, but all the time. /shrug

Agreed though. McDavid and Draisaitl may be as good or better than Sid and Geno ever were in a purely offensive sense, but I think of Sid as a top-5 player, and Geno as like a top-10 or top-15 guy for a reason. I don't know that McDavid or Draisaitl ever reaches that level of legacy. If anything, we're probably looking back in like 20 years with a "What could've been" lens when examining the careers of the two Edmonton guys.

-edit- Also, I think Sid and Geno probably would've played together more if they worked as well as McDavid and Draisaitl do together. It was a blessing that they didn't really kill it when the team put them together tbh.

As bad as it's gotten as a Pens fan, at least this core got three Cups in four Finals appearances. It must be rough being an Oilers fan and watching two guys like McDavid and Draisaitl just waste away, knowing they're gonna want out sooner than later at this point.

What a colossal failure from Chia and Holland. f***ing imbeciles.

Sid was 21 when he won his first Cup, as a Captain no less. And against an ridiculously stacked Wings team. I really feel like that gets underrated.

Him and Malkin went f***ing bonkers that year, with such a mish mash of linemates, other than Kunitz on Sid's line with the corpse of Bill Guerin.

Edit: Also every Caps team we ever faced in the POs in the Sid era, was wayyyyyyy better than any McDavid era Oilers team

McDavid and Draisaitl have had playoff efforts as good or better than any Sid and Geno put together. They have done everything they can, Oilers management sucks so hard.

Watching the San Jose game for kicks. What a dismal display. Philly makes Pittsburgh look like world beaters. They can't set up a chance to save their lives. Flyers can't manage 3 passes in a row, San Jose can barely manage 1. It's Hertl on a desert island out there.
