Interesting I just noticed Dallas draft from last season I thought the Wyatt Johnston pick at #23 OA was a reach at the time since he had 30 points in 53 games in his draft year but the 6’2” centre put up 123 points in 66 games in Windsor in his draft +1 season (wow). I wonder what the hell happened?? Also nice pick in the 2nd round in Logan Stankoven who put up 102 points this season in Kamloops.

Dallas seems to do pretty well in the second round last number of years. Robertson, Hintz and now Stankoven has been trending nicely.

The Robertson and Hintz picks saved the franchise.
Oettinger seems to be playing at a solid level as a 23 year old too. And the Pavelski signing has been great, given the injuries that have piled up on Seguin. I haven't watched them much this year hut wonder how Suter has been for them.

2017 draft changed em lol. Robertson, Heiskanen and Oettinger.

Yea I hadn’t been a big fan of their drafting but they really turned it around in about 2017. I have not watched enough to comment on Suter. Pavelski has been a revelation. You win some and you lose some on those older free agents but that has been a home run for them. They needed it because Benn, , and Radulov have really struggled to add value anywhere near their contracts.

Oettinger and Robertson both drafted after Vesalainen. Just sayin'... :banghead:

I think I read somewhere that the Stars have the leader in points per game in the WHL-Stankoven OHL-Johnston and QMJHL-Bourque and that is the first time that has happened.

That must be nice. It feels like a while since the Jets had a top Canadian prospect. There was Perfetti, but it's been a couple years now.

Yeah that's true and it's pretty wild. Stars fans are pumped. Too bad Bourque has had so many injuries this season he's pretty magical.

Laine's going through one of his infamous cold stretches again. 1 goal in the past 10 games.

It will be interesting to see what Columbus does with him in the off-season.
Trade his RFA rights? Doubtful, as he only has 1-year of control left so the return would likely not be to columbus' liking.
Sign him to a long term contract of 5 plus years? Also doubtful, as I believe it would take close to $9 million per season to do that, maybe more, despite the inconsistent play. Risky move for Columbus.
A medium-term contract...say $9 million per year maybe just the ticket for both parties. A high price, yes, but it's not a super-long commitment. IF Laine remains the enigma he has most of his career, Columbus will be rid of him in 3 years while they continue to rebuild. If Laine lives up to the contract or exceeds it, Columbus can sign him to an extension or, assuming they are still not a playoff contender in year 2, trade him for bucket of good young prospects/draft picks.

From Laine's perspective, a 3 -year contract likely provides him with some medium term financial stability and free agency at 27 when should still be in his prime.

Too bad Smith didn't want to play wing for the Jets. It's one game but he's actually showing more physical play then I thought he would have at the NHL level. I shouldn't be surprised Minnesota State is a grind you down type structure, but I am nonetheless.
They've got a good coach in Mankato in Scott Sandelin. Wouldn't be surprised if he moves up to the NHL as well. I think Smith made a choice for his career, looking at the centres ahead of him in the Jets organization, wondering if he'd get a better opportunity elsewhere. College players have more say in where they play than junior kids, which I think is an unfair advantage.

It adds to the narrative that Winnipeg can't get or keep players. Wonder if the offseason will be any different.

I imagine Gary's phone was ringing non stop with calls from angry GM's.
There's at least 3 teams in the NHL, in Toronto, Vegas and Tampa that use the LTIR that way. I figure Vegas has to go 7-1 down the stretch to make the playoffs, with Stone back. I don't think Vegas has enough entry level depth to fill the roster spots needed for such a top heavy payroll. The Dadonov trade nullification probably forced Vegas to keep Stone on LTIR longer than they wanted. I think the villain role is good for Vegas, this year they might be golfing sooner than the Jets...

Josi has always been unreal. Duchene’s season is pretty crazy. He has been terrible since Ottawa and has been a black hole since arriving in Nashville until this season?
Is Josi the favourite for the Norris this year?

Nah, they're 3 back of the Kings for 3rd in the Pacific and have 2 games in hand on LA. LA is also not doing so hot lately, though I'd say Vegas has the tougher schedule (@ CGY, EDM, DAL, CHI and STL, home to NJD, WSH, SJS). LA has the Ducks twice, the Kraken, Columbus, and a probably out of it Vancouver, not to mention the brutal Blackhawks.

They just have to match LA and win their 2 games in hand.

Makar has 26 goals and 81 in 69. I think it's very much still a two horse race for that award.

Yeh i think Makar had 4 points last night. Made up some ground on Josi. From what people are saying if they’re close in points it should go to Makar as he may be having a better season defensively.
