Mathews is a big dude who plays a soft game, does not want anyone hitting him, his go to move is the cross check if anyone takes him on, this time he got carried away and could of ended every differently for Dahlin.
Guy started all that shit with a dirty hit and then just stood back and watched everyone else fight, what a piece of shit. Give me Dubois over that weasel any day.

2 games is hilarious from DoPS. Much worse gets less. Not to mention the ref is staring at 2 penalties from Dahlin right in front of him which would've prevented the whole situation in the first place.

I'm just going to say it, Scheifele gets 4 playoff games (which count for more) for his late hit, but a blatant cross check to the head only gets 2?

I've said it many times, the way this league punishes based on injury is ridiculous. Nothing happened to Dhalin so it's 2. If he went down and needed to be stretchered off it would have been more.

Stop punishing the result and punish the play you idiots.

If any Jets player had done that , guaranteed 5 games at least. Spezza knees Pionk in the head, gets suspended but the league cuts back the suspension. Matthews tries to decapitate a player and only gets 2 games? Probably will appeal and only get 1 game, and people wonder why there is so much hate for the Leafs.

How many cross check suspensions have been dished out in the reg season or PO's the last few years? Kadri, Matthews come to mind. But don't think there's been others (atleast according to Google).

Edit - there was one in the pre season from an Ottawa player against us.

Someone on the main board said this is the first I’m the regular season in 3.5 years. Worst has gotten less or no attention at all. Mangiopani(however you spell it) got 2 mins for cross checking Scheif straight to the face.

I know Malkin should have got one on Wheeler...

I think they're referencing this one

But ya, they're all over the place and so many cross checks just as bad go uncalled.

Don't hate the Leafs over this. Hate the league (Bettman). Hate the media (TSN& SN). Hate DoP(e)S (Bettman again, Parros).

McNabb, in the playoffs, cross-checked Scheifele in the mouth, drawing blood, and got nothing — Scheif got a penalty on the play.

The DoPS is incredibly inconsistent. The Matthews crosscheck was way more egregious than the Scheifele hit — but Scheifele got the equivalent of 4x the number of the regular season games based on optics. Dahlin gets up so it’s all good.

Matthews deserved more games, but there’s been even more vicious plays/incidents that only received fines or got nothing at all. It truly seems like they arrive at these punishments at random. It makes no sense.

Morrissey got one game for a similar infraction in the playoffs a number of years back. Two games is fair for Mathews based on that precedent.

Yep. It was Morrissey on Stahl, IIRC, in the 2018 run.
