I'm officially on the Flames bandwagon for the rest of this year.
I listen to 960 Calgary the Fan on my commute each morning.
Great show.

McDrai without a 5v5 goal in like 6 games. Nurse contract is terrible and hasn't even kicked in yet. They have no goalie and no goalie prospects.

They're terribly terribly screwed going into the future. Next year is going to be even worse, imo.

Look how close Chipman is to Cheveldayoff.

When Cheveldayoff spoke on the Black Hawks saga after the NHL decided not to sanction him, Chipman sat there right by his side.

I question whether Chipman can be completely impartial when evaluating Cheveldayoff's performance.

Hence, and independent President of Hockey Operations.

Who would also develop a relationship with his long-time GM and have difficulty being entirely impartial.

Extra layers of management are almost always a bad thing in any organization. They just create inertia.

Do you think the President of Hockey Operations would not have been by Chevy's side supporting him in that circumstance? It is either be there supporting him or fire him in a case like that.

Your points are valid.

In my business I've had to fire employees.

I don't like doing it, but, I make sure to keep a distance between me and my employees so I don't let personal feelings get ahead of business.

My read on Chipman is he is a very caring, nice guy who wants to be seen to be a good person.

He's obviously very close to his inner circle which includes Cheveldayoff which makes me question whether he can look at the GM's performance with a critical eye.

Our head coach had to quit because our GM and owner would not fire him out of loyalty.

A President of Hockey Operations can act as that critical eye and be the "bad guy" when the GM or coach is let go.

Sure a PoHO could do that. Or not. Chipman is a pretty successful businessman. I expect he has had to make some hard decisions in his career.

I don't understand the desire to have that extra layer of management. A few teams have it and I can't see where it has accomplished anything at all - except in the case of a team like TML where corporate ownership otherwise has those functions carried out by a committee. The only thing worse than more layers of management is more committees.

I don't think Chevy's shelf life has expired. In fact, it has only just begun to be questioned. If he fails to handle the Jets current situation, I expect Chipman to fire him before too much longer. If that doesn't happen, I might begin to think along the PoHO line. But probably not. I'll just get mad at Chipman.

I'd say it could go either way - either being stuck at the bottom in a bad situation or potentially retooling and quickly becoming elite, since they obviously have some good pieces
Hope it's the former

I am rooting for the Oilers to make the playoffs because that'd mean one less spot for the piss knights. Would love to see them miss the playoffs after blatant cap circumvention.
I would like to see Vegas miss the playoffs for the same reason. They got cute when they sat Stone and it would be some sweet karma if it bit them in the ass.

I nominate pre-server migration Sip to be President of Hockey Operations :sarcasm:

And that trade looks really bad for them so far. Tuch is playing lights out, producing more than Eichel. Tuch is going to be Sabres version of prime-Wheeler for the next 10 years and probably their next captain. Krebs is coming along nicely at .5 PPG in his rookie year and that is not even counting the 1st and the 2nd that Vegas gave up and the ~4 million less cap hit

I think McKrimmon and McPhee outsmarted themselves on this one. You love to see it.
