Can't believe they dumped that bum with no retention and no sweetener.

I really don’t think any of it is all that shocking. Kind of expected it because dumb shit like this always happens but it’s still just so dumb. It’d already be dumb enough to take on the whole deal for nothing but how are you also giving stuff up for him??

I guess if you're ANA this $8M trouba contract strategically positions your team to attract UFAs this summer. A lot of money to spend to have a former captain build team culture. Gudas is their current C. They definitely need a replacement there. Trouba will be a long term alternate captain there if he trusts the process. OR he leaves in 2026.

Ducks would make some sense since they only have 5 NHL D under contract next year and they might deal Fowler at some point. Gudas was their only RHD until they called up Drew Helleson recently and he might be more of an AHL guy.

Maybe they think Trouba can be salvaged like Sean Monahan and they can trade him for a decent pick at the 2026 trade deadline?

LHD: Fowler-Mintyukov-Dumoulin-Zellweger-LaCombe
RHD: Trouba-Gudas-Helleson [Luneau-Warren]

Perhaps not surprisingly, Trouba makes less (6 mil) than his cap hit (8 mil) which is the sort of deal Anaheim has liked in the past. I was a little surprised they re-signed Vaakanainen; Seemed like other guys had passed him on their depth chart.

Now he's Celebrini and the Fresh Prince's problem.

The Kings need to watch that he doesn't put Kopitar and Doughty into a nursing home pretty soon.

Actually, I think Doughty has been in a nursing the entire season so far lol.

He's going to miss the big east rivalries. Maybe Kings/Ducks will be fun for him.

Once it became clear that waivers might be a realistic option, the Rangers weren't going to have to retain significantly on Trouba unless they took a decent piece back.

The truth is that it's still hard to get big-salary players for free. Trouba sucks, but other teams aren't giving up a player like this for nothing in season.

Honestly that sucks, there’s no reason for Ottawa to have to take Trouba in a Brady deal, and that add cap space, unless the Rangers make it worth their while.
Turns out he didn’t have negative value and the Rags are a point away from a lottery pick

I’m not sure that trade would’ve been very off base

Please elaborate...

Trouba seems like a guy a GM like Verbeek would love to get though. The opposite of guys like Zegras that Verbeek most likely loathes.
