Laf for Tkachuk feels pretty close in value. Maybe it’s a 2nd that you add. The difference between a 1 and a 2 is another 2 based on pick value so then they’re basically paying a 2 to Ottawa for taking on Trouba which also feels close. Either way if that was the trade - which seems like Ottawa wouldn’t do - I’d still be ok with the impact on the Devils ie Rangers aren’t going to become juggernauts

Laf’s been pretty bad since signing the extension. While I do think Laf has the potential to be as good as Brady is he’s really not all that close right now. Laf’s a very talented complimentary piece. Brady’s an elite offensive driver

Here's hoping this Rags shitshow continues in a downward spiral and Shesterkin decides to exit.

I can’t decide what’s better. Igor going back on a heater and forcing them to pay him what he wants and handcuffing the rest of the roster or him leaving and the Rangers being forced to return to the real NHL with a team that can’t always get caved and win

Your lips to God’s ears but every goalie that goes there seems to play like prime Hasek.

Rangers might really show how much leverage teams have over players with limited movement clauses in their contracts. People always say “oh, players/agents will beware of that team in the future” but that’s never really the case. I think Vegas screwed over some players a few years ago and it was like instantly forgotten.

I think players have circles of friends - guys they've been in the league with, guys they've played on WJC or World Championship teams with - who might be dissuaded from signing somewhere based on how they treated a friend. But the thing is that's all microgenerational and also players only sign one big UFA contract typically so it's really a small group of players who might be affected.

The Devils arguably mistreated just about everyone they signed UFA past 2005 and that didn't seem to affect anything.

Yeah fair enough I guess I was overvaluing Laf’s start to the season

I think the 2nd one. Shesterkin is a top 5 goalie on any team and $12m in a rising cap world doesn’t hamstring them as much as I’d need it to for me to be ok with this

That’s tough

Bit of a shocker for me, while no JJ Peterka (looove him), Quinn seemed to be trending up before all the injuries.

He had been been benefiting from hot Shooting %, both personal and on-ice, and now is very much not.

He probably needs to get to the net/slot more, but then again so do the Sabres in general.

Laf Trouba and a 1st for Brady seems reasonable and doesn’t overpower the Rangers too much.

If they somehow pull off Kakko and a prospect for Tkachuk and then Trouba and a 5th to someone like San Jose I’ll be very disappointed

Honestly that sucks, there’s no reason for Ottawa to have to take Trouba in a Brady deal, and that add cap space, unless the Rangers make it worth their while.

That team has been a paper tiger for like three years now. Being extremely opportunistic on the PP while your resident scumbag gets away with intentionally injuring opposing star players and the world’s best goalie constantly bails out your mediocre even strength play is not how teams win championships. It was probably only a matter of time before their horseshoe-up-the-ass luck ran out in the regular season as opposed to a conference final.

They’ll probably still make the playoffs but they aren’t a real contender, as usual.
