My hope is this causes the other guys on the block to check out even more. I still think next year they could come back and be legitimately great with smart adds on the backend but they’re fighting an uphill battle to solve the issues in season even with him going out opening up 8 mil

I think it's a guarantee that it shakes the locker room one way or another. You would think that all this would do is mount further pressure on the guys that are out there in rumors.

Teams with the space right now with no extra moves are Isles, Kings, Habs, Utah, SJ, Calgary, Flames, Ducks, Jackets. Is Grier going to bail out his best buddy again?

According to whom? Puckpedia has only 5 of those teams - Utah, San Jose, Anaheim, Calgary, Columbus - with sufficient room. I could see the Islanders being desperate enough but wouldn't they have to use LTIR?

Considering the way they handled Goodrow and Trouba in the summer already seemed to break them and then the recent rumors broke them even harder I could definitely see this having more of a negative effect. If they use the open space though to add someone good instead of having Trouba drag them down and they start winning some games their attitude will turn positive again

Sounds like a game of chicken right now. Rangers have a deal or two in place (presumably with a sweetener attached and/or salary retention), but they require Trouba to waive his NTC. Tossing him on waivers at least opens up the possibility of Trouba getting claimed and having zero control over where he winds up, so it ratchets up the pressure for him to waive to a known destination.

I find it hard to believe that any team is willing to claim him off waivers, but who knows.

I cannot figure out why even the dumpsters of the league would want to take Trouba on. They better be sending a 1st with him. I swear the league has a rule in place that requires other teams to take their bad contracts off their hands for them, sometimes even returning assets instead of getting them.

A right side of Sevo, Fabbro, Trouba, Gudbrandson for 21 mil sure would be something. In terms of just what it looks like on ice I think Sevo/Fabbro/Trouba would be quite good. Sevo’s been tremendous with the Jackets, Fabbro’s been great, and Trouba should be good in a bottom pair role

Players will quickly learn for NMC

I’m really surprised more teams haven’t done this with players not waiving their ntc.

If he clears waivers he just gets sent to the minors and cap hit still on book?

They're going to get out of it, again.

Endlessly annoying how other teams line up to bail the Rangers out of problems of their own making.

And the Rangers repeatedly screwing over their own players does nothing to stop the next crop of star UFAs from signing there anyway.

It's like nobody ever learns.

I’d be surprised if Waddell was doing Drury any favors here with how desperate he has been to unload Trouba.

I would be too but you never know. I'd think a Gudbranson for Trouba swap with some sort of retention by the Rangers would be what makes the most sense if he wanted Trouba.

Unless the league is mandating the favor....

The conspiracy theory is unfounded. The league isn't making teams do this.

Teams do it because the Rangers have a history of signing flashy stars and then jettisoning them when they become ineffective. Teams are hoping that the Rangers' cast-offs can recapture the magic, but inevitably they don't.

Incompetent decisions do not constitute a conspiracy.

Iirc there was an uptick in no-move clauses after the Dan Boyle thing with Tampa. I doubt Rangers moving forward under Drury will be able to sign a big free agent deal without a NMC after this.

Bottom line is there are still a lot of dumb teams in the league who like what they preview Trouba’s game to be (big physical defensemen). Of course that doesn’t necessarily line up with his actual play.

Anyways, I’m going to take to today to laugh my ass off about this situation and worry about the fallout next.

In watching that Jfresh highlight package and seeing that Trouba has only 39 hits in 24 games after 191 in 69 games last season, I suspect a decade of physical hockey has just taken its toll and he's not really looking to mix it up out there every night. Either that or he's checked out on the Rangers.
