July 1st Arizona signs Galchynuk

July 13th Arizona places Galchynuk on waivers to terminate his contract.

What in the heck happened in those 12 days

Well it certainly isn’t related to on-ice since they’re in the off-season (though I guess it’s possible that players could get hurt skating on their own, etc). That’s a statement that doesn’t really say anything.

The whole Galchenyuk tale is just sad. You hate to see it.

Damn the leafs really want to double down on no defense after hiring Van Ryn. They way the blues defended last year doesn't give me much hope he will do well in Toronto

It will be very interesting tracking Toronto's defense next year after hiring Van Ryn. It should be an extra indicator of how much of last year's atrocious defensive performance was on the coaching vs the roster.

Perhaps. But in Toronto he may be implementing different system based on keefe preferences. Or maybe just guys tuned him out and needed fresh voice. Or maybe mvr was problem but learned from his firing and is better in Toronto. Lots of variables. But he had to go and nothing that happens this year in either Toronto or St. Louis changes that.

I don't think Toronto will know if he's a bad defense coach or not. It all looks the same to them.

I'd take Dunn 100 times out of 100 at 6.5 mil, but at 7.35? Nah fam I'll pass on that. He's just had a career year, and even though he is a top tier point producer at the moment, he ain't making more than Faulk on this team. His 64 points does not offset his lack of defense. Good for him though.

He has become better defensively.

He has become better defensively.

I would certainly hope so, but it's hard to tell when he's playing with a defensive beast like Larsson. He's also not that great on the power play in my opinion. Dunn isn't an elite passer and didn't score a single PPG last year despite getting nearly 3 mins of PP time per game.

I said it when he was with the Blues but I see a lot of similarities between Faulk and Dunn, although Dunn is better offensively and Faulk defensively. Maybe Dunn continues to improve and earns every bit of this new contract but I could see it going either way. Don't think Seattle had much of a choice though and the 4 year term is probably a good compromise for both sides.
