I'm not even sure if a neck guard would have helped you there. The hard plastic is what you'd need, like on your shin pads. That absorbs shock. Imagine wearing a neck guard on your shin and taking a slapshot to it. That would be incredibly painful and would probably do close to the same amount of damage as it would if you weren't wearing anything.
Skates don't stab. The way the blade is designed and sharpened creates a slash type of injury instead of blunt force, so things designed to protect from the slashing motion would be effective.

I wasn't talking about a skate to the neck.

One would go to the Knights, one would go to the Ducks, and one would go to the Devils.
All joking aside, I’m surprised Vegas doesn’t get any compensation. They are ones who were wronged here, as they got less value than they expected due to ntc they were told didn’t apply. They won Cup last year, so not like they were hamstrung too muc, but Sens did them dirty.

Dorian also getting fired as GM.

Rumor is one of the likely candidates to replace him is…Chiarelli.
Lol only the senators would fire someone for incompetence and want to replace him with someone worse.

On a related note, I can’t say I blame Andlauer for being pissed that the league withheld the investigations from him. Extremely ironic considering they are now being punished for withholding information that should have been provided.

Man what a whirlwind for the Senators over the last 1.5 or so years. They make huge trades for Chychrun and Debrincat, only to have to then trade away Debrincat. They have Pinto get suspended for 41 games. They have to cede a 1st round pick. Yet they actually have a young, exciting core in Brady, Stutlze, and Sanderson.

All over the map with that org lol.

From a player perspective, it makes sense that they'd come hard on Ottawa too. There needs to be a strong message that NTCS aren't things you can play fast and loose with.

agree, but i am surprised they didn't award anything to vegas. like when we got punished for tampering on stevens devils were team that we had harmed so we had to compensate them. (i know we all act like league was out to get us, but that idiot jack quinn left evidence of his crime lying around for nhl to find.) i'm just surprised that vegas doesn't get anything here.

I do not think you can ever underestimate how badly Jack Quinn screwed the franchise in the 90’s

I also think it reflects quite poorly on the league. Given that the registry initially approved the trade, it shows the league doesn’t maintain an up to date database of player contracts, which just gives an appearance of laziness on their end.

my understanding is the players had wanted it that way, so that it wouldn't get public who they didn't want to be traded to. But there needs to be a middle ground that isn't just amateur hour.

It’d make sense for the league to have that info on hand to ensure contracts are being enforced legally, while not making it public either. But doing what makes sense isn’t exactly their strong suit.

to be clear, the worry is that if league has it on file that more people will have access to it and could leak out more easily. i wasn't suggesting that formally publishing the no trade destinations was ever an option.

The Athletic had a story up about the Adam Johnson story - Could Matt Petgrave face action for Adam Johnson's death and will extra safety measures be imposed?

Main thing I learned is that they don’t have ambulances on standby at the games there.
A spokesperson for Yorkshire Ambulance Service said it had been called out at 8.21pm on Saturday evening to attend Sheffield Arena following “an incident on the ice”. Two ambulances and a critical care paramedic attended.
A spokesperson for Sheffield Steelers confirmed to The Athletic they have a qualified team doctor who is present at every match. They added there are no ambulances on site for any matches in the division.

There is no requirement to have a medical professional on the bench for EIHA matches below the top division. St John Ambulance, a UK first aid charity made up of trained volunteers who provide emergency treatment, including at many sports events, does not cover ice hockey matches.
I find that pretty shocking. Heck, 20 years ago I was involved in the ACHA (college club hockey) and we had an ambulance and team of paramedics on site.

But IMO, the scary part is if this happens in youth hockey or some beer league game and there’s no medical staff present.

The article also details a few other neck cut deaths I wasn’t familiar with.

Getting hit with a skate blade will likely result in blunt force AND slash damage. Gotta remember the steel blade is connected to an out of control foot, with a lot of force behind it. Even if the blade was completely dull it would do a lot blunt force damage as well.
