Ugh this is a fantastic deal for Washington. **** off.

Holy crap yeah that's fantastic. They're getting a good off-season . They attached orpik to a backup goalie, got a second rounder, and they'll replace orpik's minutes with kempney

I think Tavares is going to San Jose.

I was told a few months ago by one of the Sharks beat writers the indication was they were going to push hard for Tavares, and they have.

There's no downside to going there. They are a win now core, they were close two years ago, the weather is great, the fanbase is good.

Why go to Toronto and be lit up by the media and fanbase if they don't win?

As someone who lives in San Jose, I can tell you this fanbase/media won't even be anywhere near that rabid. The Sharks take such a backseat to other things here, Tavares would be borderline flying under the radar if it doesn't work.

No downside to me. I'll enjoy seeing him skate in the teal.

I gotta give Doug Wilson credit. Dude goes big game hunting whenever he can, and isn't afraid to do so. Probably not so good for their future in like a decade, but if it results in a Cup, no one will care

I have to agree with these sentiments. I don't have any inside info, but SJS is a gorgeous area, right near SF, Weather is good, not too far from LA driving or flying, Sports teams are very cool and collective. Sharks will be a bit higher on the radar once the Raiders leave but either way that's a good place to be. SJS is ready to win, they're keeping this core together at the expense of 5-8 year extensions, and they have a good glut of upcoming talent as well.

Cannot see him staying with the Isles because a) they keep saying they can win, but they never do, b) the arena situation is a disaster, c) the team doesn't have much in the pipeline other than Wahlstrom and Dobson but both are 1+ years away, and d) the defense needs to be fixed NOW if Tavares wants to stay--there's no actual way to do that unless Karlsson is acquired, but the Isles can't take on Ryan's contract AND sign Tavares.

I can't believe TB is in on Tavares. Like I've said many times before, it just seems like the cap doesn't apply to them.
Them and Pittsburgh. They seem to have infinite cap space.

I hope they do it though just to see them try to afford new contracts for Kucherov, and Point.

Of course Tampa would magically have space for Tavares, of course.

Hope he goes to the f***in Sharks. Although Boston or Tampa would be hilarious.

Even if JT resigns with the islanders I’ve really enjoyed the last several days of all of my islander fan friends being so miserable. The whole JT saga sucked the joy out of their draft. Pretty sure we’ll see some jersey burnings if he leaves.

AP report in the Post speculates that R. Nash might retire.

Well I didn't want him back but I can imagine his early retirement might have something to do with the concussion problems he's had off and on throughout his career. The more you have the more likely you are to get CTE or Parkinson's or Alzheimer's and the more likely that you'll have those conditions earlier than most (maybe even very much earlier) than most people would. So if that's his issue I would advise him to try to get ahead of his problem and retire and not do anything that would make it worse. He should have a couple boatloads of cash squirreled away so that you would think he'd be okay financially.

Yeesh. If true and Couture is signing a $8m a year extension they'd have JT, Couture, Kane, Burns and Vlasic on long-term $7m+ deals, with Pavelski out of contract after next season...
Pavelski is going to be 35 to start his new contract, I can see SJ letting him walk if they get Tavares.
