Look at Chytil from draft to April, it’ll happen

Different genetics.

Chytil literally grew in his equipment like some kind of Czech hockey superhero. He's going to have no trouble putting on size and strength. Hes a beast.

Kravtsov is going to need some time. A good summer will help him immensely though.

It's important to remember that Wahlstrom put up 94 points against 16- and 17-year old kids who will for the vast majority never play pro hockey. I don't hate Wahlstrom at all. I actually like him as a player. But as much as sample size matters, so does context. Quality of opposition is an often underrated aspect of judging prospects

Your point overall is fine and well taken, but this is a bit of hyperbole. The U18 team plays about 20 games against big time NCAA programs which have players aging from 18 to the 25 y/o Matt Gilroys of the world. That's about half of a full NCAA season as 16/17/18 y/os. It's a huge step up from something like the USHL or US HS.

Hot take here on my part, could definitely be way off base since I haven’t exactly seen much of Wahlstrom’s Us development team games, but could we possibly see a Jack Hughes effect as well?

I have not seen him play so I will reserve judgement on that but I have seen that point been made several times. How much of Wahlstrom's production is thanks to playing with a potential 1st overall pick? Maybe someone who followed the USNTDP closely can weigh in?

Huh? Kravtsov will definitely put on weight after a calendar year

But the majority of those players will never make it to major pro hockey, correct? Out of every NCAA program, how many players make it to the NHL or KHL later on in life?

It's a hard number to get at. The NCAA stats are terrible because they only look at either % of NHL players who went through the NCAA (not super meaningful) or the amount of NCAA players drafted (which ignores players drafted from Jr teams who subsequently go to the NCAA).

My gut number (from elite programs) would be like 20-30% sign NHL/AHL contracts. Another 30-40% sign contracts in Europe. And 30-50% never play pro hockey of any kind.

He won't grow as much as Chytil did though.

Chytil went from like 192 to 210 in a year.

You’re digging too deep on the comparison. Either way he’s going to be putting on weight, I’m not saying Chytil is a benchmark in anyway, just raising the point he will eventually fill out. We’re definitely on the same page though.

If he didn't sign until now I think he is a goner.

It would seem that would be so. If so, what a shame to lose him for nothing. I mean they could have certainly gotten a bit more for him than Nash got us. That said, he could really be torn and need the entire final day to decide to stay.

They have Barzal as a consolation prize, not pitying the Islanders.

He could have returned something stupid if the Islanders made him available at the deadline.

I'm not pitying them. They also just had one hell of a first round in the draft. But any way you slice it that's terrible asset management to not make the playoffs and then lose your captain and best player for nothing. Really awful.

. Pending John Tavares’ decision, the two most accomplished players to become free agents relatively close to their prime were, 1) Scott Niedermayer and 2) Zach Parise. Both played for Lou Lamoriello. Niedermayer left to play with his brother, Rob, in Anaheim. Parise left to go home to Minnesota

Nice record for Lou.

Garth Snow is one of those people who has carved out multi-decade career in the NHL and I'm not entirely sure how.

I heard Wong loved him so much that before he sold the team, he gave Snow a huge contract that was like 10 years or something like that and added a clause that if he got fired, he’d get a boat load of money, just to keep the new owner from firing him

If by the time Mulan finishes saving China from the Mongoloids and Tavares still hasn't signed, it'll at least mean the Islanders are out of contention. Hip hip.

That all sounds about right. I was thinking it was some love fest with Wong.

Do you guys want Tavares to leave?

I'm torn. As I said earlier, these kind of deals always kill you towards the end. And we aren't contending during the first couple or so years of a new deal anyway. But then to have him just walk and the Isles get nothing is a total embarrassment to the franchise...so there's that.
