Around The NHL #13

Huh. I defended Chychrun's decision to request a trade from the Yotes, he played hard and didn't complain to the media about it taking some time. Obviously not re-signing in Ottawa is his right as a UFA. But after him vetoing a trade to Columbus by telling them he wouldn't sign there and now getting traded to an "approved" team and wanting out of there, not a good look. The one thing I'll still say in his defense is over the last decade the Coyotes and Senators have been the premier teams for gross incompetence, so it could be that he just saw the same stuff in Ottawa as the pre Armstrong Coyotes and said f*** this.
There were rumors that preceded this one that Ottawa was shopping him.

It makes more sense if we adjust our timeline. Maybe Staios did the simple math that everyone not named Pierre Dorion already did a year ago, and discovered a team with Chabot and Sanderson doesn’t need Chychrun, especially not a UFA years, full-price Chychrun. Maybe Chychrun’s camp met with Staios and asked for clarity. Maybe he was transparent. Maybe the Chychrun camp is now just involved in this process.

Now we get this rumor about Chychrun being involved in the trade process.

He looks like the bad guy now. But it could have nothing to do with his own preferences. Just because he’s in this position doesn’t mean he was the genesis of it. Could argue that it was the same in Phoenix at least to some degree. He didn’t make the first move.

Maybe it’s the player and not the team(s).

He appears to be more invested in himself than the teams he plays for. Thats his right…but it also shows that he’s not the player you can build around.

I agree. GMBA put that thought in JCs mind. And now the Sens have Chabot and Sanderson locked up for a long time and the Sens aren't trading Sanderson and that Chabot contract would be hard to move. Too much money invested in LHD, while there are holes in their roster that need to be rectified. It's obvious that trading Chychrun is the solution and he is not really the problem! The problem is Chabot's contract and the lack of ability to be able to move it for the right assets.

I'm sure the Sens would rather move on from Chabot and that Chychrun would be willing to re-sign to a somewhat team friendly contract, but I don't see how that would improve Ottawa as much as trading Chychrun.

He went to Ottawa thinking they were reloading instead of rebuilding and there wouldn't be any big changes. Then a new owner takes over and cleans the upper half of the house.

It's just one of those things that's part of the business. BA said he handled the situation in Arizona like a pro and I'd expect him to do the same here.

For a second, I thought this was the German National Team. Blew a 3 goal lead I hear. I suppose throwing a tantrum might motivate the team, but I prefer my captain to show more emotional intelligence.

I know hitting goalies, even outside the crease, is considered bad form and an unwritten rule, but how is this interference? Wasn't Flower playing the puck? Lockwood suspended 3 games seems ridiculous.

I'm no professional player, but as a goalie, I don't expect to get hit.

I'm concerned about losing the puck or making a poor pass. So on the rare occasion that a player ran into me, I haven't squared myself for the contact at all.

Once on a game a player swept by me by the boards, making light contact with my leg from behind. I fell immediately.
The referee accused me of diving. It was infuriating and undeserved.

Wow it’s FIVE guys from that ‘18 WJC team getting charged.

Two NHLers who were on that team took indefinite LOAs over the last 48hrs. I can think of two former NHLers from that team that have inexplicably been unable to get contracts in the NHL over the last year, or so, despite fitting the profile of NHLers otherwise.

If it’s Dube after he cited mental health as a reason for the leave that’s pretty messed up.
