Around The NHL #13

This is exactly what Wheeler did to us. Said no thank you and went to a different team. As mush as I hate to say it he turned into a great player.
He was offered a contract, declined it to opt for free agency because he took the full 4 years to develop, and signed with the Bruins, who could not offer as much as the Coyotes had per the rules on draft rights and contract offers vs free agency (an ineffective deterrent in this case).

Winnipeg stripping his captaincy, leading to him leaving for the Rangers a season later, has resulted in Winnipeg climbing to the top of the standings. Not sure it was entirely him, but they clearly had locker room issues over the course of several seasons.

Gauthier got the Flyers an active NHL player; Coyotes got a compensatory 2nd round pick (35th overall).

And Philly has Michkov, who seems to have "character flaws" waiting. What are the odds we see the same thing from him. Michkov wants to come over and asks for a contract at the end of the year after KHL season, to burn a contract year and get some bonus money, but Philly says no.
Michkov has a KHL contract so can't sign in nhl Yet anyway.

My understanding of the falling out included Gauthier wanting to sign at the end of the year to burn a contract year. When the Michkov KHL contract is up, will Philly management do the same, and not sign him as soon as possible to not burn a contract year? Will Michkov have the same reaction as Gauthier?

5 minutes remaining in the 1st...Ducks 0 shots on goal

13-0

1st shot with 4:28 remaining...it's a Save!

Shot pissed off the Jerks, so they scored 2 in 15 seconds

There should be a clock on reviews. If it is not obvious enough to overturn in a few minutes, then call on the ice should stand.
I’m so sick of offside that I’m ready for a rule change. You can carry a puck in offside. You can’t pass it or dump it offside. Let’s see what happens. Just do it in the ECHL and see what happens.

I'm not a pusher of new tech. In fact I'm growing more and more resistant to it. But linesmen should be replaced by sensors. Get the call right, right away.

This too would be a great improvement.

Just go back to the original rule and remove the challenge. Deliberating over a toe of a skate being on or over the blue paint is silly.

With how terribly they've implemented the review I'm OK with removing it. I'm also fine with an off ice official looking at offsides automatically using the live feed. If it's not super obvious with the live feed that it's offsides no review is needed. If it's obvious they signal down to the officials and they blow the play dead.

That horse is not going back into the barn. More likely they increase it's use.

We should have drafted the ASU product. Oh well...good for him and the Sun Devil program.

Edit: Reading his bio I see he's fluent in Swiss German. Gotta admit I didn't know that was a language.

Paging @Edenjung ... (as someone who speaks/reads some German...get a Swiss person talking to me and I'm "Wie, bitte? Wie, bitte?" )
(other German jumping in) yeah, Swiss German can be special dialect, which not spoken slowly enough, can be hard to understand. there are a lot of German dialects but most are only folklore nowadays which is quite sad.
in Switzerland on the other gand they're speaking without compromise, it's a challenge 😏

If they don't Talks slowly its hard to understand.
But the Same goes for bavarian.
But most Swiss from the german parts will slow down and speak more clearly. And Most of the Younger generation are way easier to understand than the old folks.

Fun fact about Switzerland: They eat Cats and dogs there. Its Not overly common nowadays but still done to this day.

I spent a term in a Winterthur college on exchange. They don't bother teaching Swiss German to international students, they teach German instead. A practical decision that I can't argue with.

There are very few differences. Almost none in written form.
The only one i know of is that instead of the letter ß, they use ss. For example we germans would write Fuß (foot) and they would write Fuss (also foot). But in normal german you also have ss in words.
The difference is in the pronounciation. Thats why we call the ß, "scharfes S" or "Eszett" (sharp s). ß is not part of the alphabet, but a minor letter.
My mom can explain how and when its used and when not, because she teaches kids with dyslexia or milder forms of learning problems german. So she knows all those rules.

Overall there are a few different words in swiss german and german, but besides that its the same language. Its a dialect.
