One side is talking. And what that side is saying makes zero sense and isn’t particularly believable. Add in the fact that they happen to be the Flyers, and zero benefit of the doubt should be given.
The kid didn’t drag this into the media, the Flyers did. The kid apparently wanted a trade but managed to keep it quiet and didn’t attempt to leverage the Flyers in the media. Once the trade was completed, the Flyers went into full blown PR crisis management and had their President, their GM, their coach, and all kinds of alumni all giving different quotes to different media outlets that all drag the kid through the mud. Feels like they’re “getting out in front of” something to me.
Gauthier remaining silent throughout gets my spidey senses tingling in the direction of the Flyers ending up the real villains, here. Generally these disgruntled, entitled brats can’t help themselves and they and/or their team end up spouting off and punching back. His camp kept this under wraps and have been sitting back and taking the abuse. In my mind, that says they deserve a bit more of the benefit of the doubt.
The smear campaign is fishy. It’s pretty easy to trade a kid, say you love Drysdale, have always loved Drysdale, never thought you’d ever have a chance to get Drysdale and say you’re proud of your team for what they’ve done this season and you wanted to reward them with a kid who can help their blueline and power play right now today, and that cost you a college kid who’s on a longer timeline and you’re okay with that. Good luck Gauthier. We finally got our guy. Drysdale, Drysdale, Drysdale.
Why are the flyers trying so hard? Why is their story so outlandish? Why is Gauthier so quiet? I’m not about to just accept whatever the first narrative is that comes out.
