Around The NHL #13

You're suggesting pajama boy might take a hometown discount?

I agree - not Giordano level but something somewhat reasonable.
My guess and it's just that. Nylander and Marner get $6 million raise between then and Tavares signs for $5 million. That's the $6 million. Zero surprise if all 3 give zero discount and want 100% of the money any other team would offer. The " Big 4" have shown that maximum income trumps winning for half a decade now so expecting that to change is wishful thinking imo.

so Toronto is gonna do:

11.5 for Nylander
13.25 for Matthews
10.9 for Marner
11.0 for Tavares

That's nearly 47M for four guys, and even with a rising cap, that leaves like 40M for 19 guys... Reilly also makes 7.5 so it's really like 32M for 18 guys.

Good luck.
Leafs/Oilers need to decide if keeping star forwards to appease fans continues to be the goal or if a chance at winning a cup is more important? In the playoffs, better D wins out, both teams are misconstructed but neither wants to trade shiny toys.

Who is giving up these D might be part of the equation. Until whole team is willing to play tougher hockey better D is kinda irrelevant in regards to Leafs. But I do generally agree as Nylander is about to get paid about the same as Vegas's 3rd line it's not hard to see a problem.

Another thing on Nylander ... he has pretty much been a point-per-game player the past few years. I think that is what you can expect production wise. Now he has a big breakout, in a contract year no less, and is about to turn 28.

Treliving really is trash.
Do you remember when Treliving left here how pissed of people were. Went to Calgary and had some success and people thought he would be GM of the year. I never saw what people liked in him in the first place. All he is doing in TO is teaching Doan his bad philosophies. He has left Calgary in a terrible spot, and has been given Duba's mess. They have to trade Mariner or Travares if you can talk them into leaving as they both have NMC.

Have relatives from Edmonton down for a few months, and of course we had to watch the Oilers. First time I have watched a complete game of the Oiler in years, and I was very impressed. Skinner played great, their D was not bad and their bottom six played good as well. IF they can get a goalie and force Skinner to be 1B they could be scary in the playoffs. When Edmonton started the year in the tank I said this will prove what kind of leader McDavid is. Well, we have our answer. This kid is on a mission. Have not seen a player like him that can take over a game since TGO.

Now I'm hearing Gauthier didn't want to play for the Flyers. Briere said he doesn't return phone calls. I guess they offered him to Montreal for the 5th pick.

I have nothing to base this off of but I immediately side with Gauthier. The flyers did bad stuff. My brain is sure of this for no real reason.
There's an incredible docu-series that sheds light on the way people in Philadelphia really think and behave. I think the title is It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia. If Gauthier caught wind of the truth then I don't blame him for a second. Nothing but selfishness and vanity in that city.
Anaheim on the other hand is just full of kindness and fairytale castles.

I really want to know what happened. Apparently Gauthier just decided he didn't want to sign in Philadelphia just a couple months after the draft. Is he planning to go the UFA route regardless and Anaheim believe they can make him change his mind?

Lol that's my favorite show. Very hard hitting documentary for sure.

2024 1st top 5 protected + 2 seconds would have been tempting, but I think Philly was looking for more developed players
I’m very curious to know if the coyotes were involved in talks. I’m not sure if I would have done that trade but adding him would have been huge.

Flyers said they engaged in conversation with 18 to 20 teams, hard to imagine Bill didn't have a conversation but I don't see how he could offer an NHL ready player comparable to RHD Drysdale.
