Around The NHL #13

this season is juicy between Perry, Fluery, Derrmont, the Oilers melting down, etc

if I'm an owner im starting to wonder if its time to move on from bettman
You're kidding right...most franchises are worth north of $Billion, I'm sure they're loving Bettman.

Franchise fees way up
Franchise worth way up
Revenues way up

Not sure any of the owners care about Perry, Fluery, Dermont or the Oilers

What does Bettman have to do with this?? These are team matters and the owners are all looking at each other funny right now.

Uhhh, wasn’t the rumour a first? Or at least a couple of high picks? Very underwhelming return.

And in their own Division!
On the main board I was trying to figure out what the ask from the Flames would be for Hanifin, now I may have to rethink it. And as a disclaimer, nothing I say over there is what I want but trying to engage with Flame fans what may be asked from Calgary. Afterall, I am the biggest homer in this forum!
I thought the worse of our 2nds would be a desirable offer from us for Zadorov. I did see he was dogging it and may have been a turn off for Armstrong.

Zadorov went way cheap. I figured at the very least he’d have pulled a 2nd and a 3rd.

Maybe Zadorov was dogging it and making things hard. Could be interest dried up? I have no idea. But it does make me wonder if Hanifin might be had at a lower than expected price too.

Soderstrom and Jenik and a pair of 2nds?
Not yet. Maybe next year. Too many times we ended the rebuild one or two years too soon.

I want Soderstrom and Jenik to either show that they have what it takes to make the team next year or propel other Tucson players onto the Coyotes during this current year.

We are at least 1 year away from trading for assets to propel us deep into a playoff run. We need Doan and Guenther to be with the club and playing well. We need Shimashove and But on the team. Then we can fill in the holes.

Unfortunately the Flames are right behind the Coyotes in the standings. At least for the time being.

I disagree. If you can get a player that fits our rebuild age wise, position wise and you can sign them long term, I go for it. Hanifin may fit that profile, but do you spend assets for him now or take a chance and wait until FA. Also, what does BA think of Soderstrom and Jenik. I know he was high on Soderstrom last year and Jenik, who knows.

I think Calgary will want a 1st. for Hanifin, if the new team can sign him.

I did too. But the Zadorov return made me a little hopeful that maybe not. Different situation but we don’t have a book on Conroy yet. Maybe he’s just bad at this? Haha.
I'm under the impression that the Flames don't allow any communication between teams and their players.
It makes it impossible to work out contract negotiations beforehand or even if there are interests in re-signing with the new club.

It’s only a 1st if he comes with an extension. If not then there’s no way you give up a 1st….

Hanifin is a top pairing D, I don't know how you can that without a first or similar asset, meaning solid NHL player. I don't think our minor league players, outside of Guenther, would move the needle along with second round picks.
