Holland was too stubborn for too long to address the goaltending situation and blueline issues with actual long-term moves that move the needle, instead opting for half measures.

He did finally pick up Ekholm last season which should’ve helped. But they needed a move like that years earlier. Before Nurse was played way over his head and got that massive extension. The frustration and lack of winning culture has positioned the well largely because of the goaltending fiasco and having to cycle through coach after coach. It’s seems toxic up there right now.

And I blame it all on a stubborn old coot of a GM who thinks he’s much more shrewd than he actually is. He’s more of the dawdling fool than the patient genius.

And what of those hoarded picks? The ones he so doggedly clung to? Is Broberg saving the day? Is Holloway going to get them to the promised land? Is Xavier Bourgault the difference maker they need?

Looking at capfriendly, there are teams (Like Columbus) that are paying 3x what the Coyotes spend on D. BJ's blow 39.7% of the cap on their D o_Oo_O

The Oilers spend 32.1% on "D".

For comparison, the Coyotes: avg. age 25.6, 13.9% of cap and $11,575,834

Next season that percentage will jump significantly.

I heard that the Devils have enquired about Zadorov. Does that mean Bahl is expendable? Looked on their board and it seems that the fans haven't been happy with his play this season. However I would imagine he would be part of the ask from the flames.

I think the only bad contracts is Campbell's and maybe Nurse to an extent. If Skinner was playing like last year we wouldn't be having this conversation. I don't think I would have changed coaches, but we all know they are the first to go. They have dug them self a hole for sure, so it will be interesting to see what happens.

Yep… so he’s got little left to use to unload anything else.
Little left? I see 5 top 64 picks in the next three years there. Holding back the reserve of draft picks he has all these years is the reason the team has underachieved and has completely wasted the prime years of McDavid and Draisaitl. He’s absolutely squandered this gift of these talents. And what he has to show for it is a collection of lackluster prospects.

He originally had eight of them.

Oilers have been better of late.

1st month of season: 2.58 GF/GP, 4.17 GA
Last 2 weeks: 3.86 and 3.14

Still letting in too many. The best teams are sub 3 goals allowed per game.
Kane has 7g on 7gp. Stuart Skinner is just dogshit. Might be worse than Mike Smith.

Well, you could make the argument that's more of a PR charm offensive...but

...I noticed something just recently during the last week of the regular season in baseball. Went to Chase Field for the first time in 5 years, and while out on the concourse, waiting in line for the concessions, the national anthem was sung by about 1,000 kids along the outfield wall...and the concessions work went on uninterrupted... AND NO ONE BATTED (no pun intended) AN EYE. AS IT SHOULD BE.

That drove me bananas when Glendale started doing that "everybody freeze" at Coyotes games circa 2010-12, even with those black curtains drawn, so you clearly weren't "in the room". Even outside, even when it was raining, ticket takers stopped - "dude, it's raining!" "Too bad, anthem's on" "but, we're not even in the arena" "Too bad, anthem's on".

This happened to me yesterday. Still in the concourse and rushing to get to my seat before puck drop. Anthem comes on, I slowed but still kept walking. You’d think I stomped on a Canadian flag or slapped a soldier.

Had a concession worker at GRA once praying during the National Anthem.

I’m officially old. In my day that would been two minutes for Brady and two minutes for Gadjovich.

Yeah. Complete overreaction by the official. Don't remember the player, but a suspension is likely inbound for the Sen that elbowed Tkachuk in the head earlier in the game.

That will change as we get more competitive.

The Columbus blueline does make me nervous. I think what we’re seeing is it takes blueliners a good while to adjust to a new team. You can’t just take good defensemen and plop them down into your lineup and they don’t miss a beat. I think Edmonton is experiencing that with Ekholm. And we’re seeing it with Dumba.

That’s worrying because we have zero defensemen under contract and there’s really only three I even want to keep. So next season, even if we add upgrades, could be a difficult and disappointing adjustment season for the defense.

More reason to add Hanifin this season if the price is right.
That's a big IF. He will want to get the big bucks, and Calgary will want picks, prospects etc. IF Hanifin is willing to come here, I think we will have to outbid everyone.

Unless Conroy is a complete idiot he's trading Hanifin to the highest bidder and giving zero poops about what Hanifin wants outside of his NTC 8 team list which is probably all other Canadian teams plus 2. He's not coming cheap to anyone.
