Like I said earlier…..

“The KHL is not a developmental league!!”

The obvious follow up question, why are "developing" players in a non development league? Getting paid is not a good answer. Many North America players could also go to Europe for a paycheck instead of the NCAA or CHL, yet they don't (except AM, but he's special).

Matthews' case was that he turned 18 on September 17 and was eligible to go pro in the Swiss league despite missing a few games or so to start their season.

Right. It made sense for him because he played major minutes in a good system, thus continued his development.

But an 18-19 yo 1rd pick should not be a healthy scratch. If they are, then they're in the wrong league. Development should trump income at this point in a career.

It happens in NA all the time. Hayton is a good example.

When I look at the Senators salary cap situation I can’t even figure out how they will get under the cap to start this season, let alone the next couple of seasons.

One thing that is easily overlooked is the Sens also have a new front office. So no doubt there’s going to be some mixed signals coming out of there.

Players on IR to start the year. After that who the hell knows.

We may not have drafted him, but he's getting the Coyotes development experience anyway!
It’s just how I works. Simashev is getting bottom pairing mins and But has been benched every game. KHL teams don’t care about developing NHL players.
Yurov got minimal games to start the year, spent some time in the MHL and gradually earned a minimal role in the KHL, even dressing for but barely playing in the playoffs in his D+1 year.

So far this season, he’s an important piece and is playing a lot and producing.

Expect But and Simashev to play KHL, VHL and MHL this year.

Wow, this Babcock stuff is wild. Is this guy really that much of a psycho? He just can’t help being himself haha. Nice hire Jarmo!
