You want to make a bet? I would think that whoever trades for Nylander has an extension in hand. Nylander is a career 0.83 PPG player, and you think TO will accept left overs, cold ones that you have suggested? Keller is a 0.77 PPG. Would you trade Keller for that crap you suggested?
? We don't have to trade Keller.
Nylander has a 10 team no trade clause
Leafs are over the cap by almost $3M using LTIR
There are currently 13 teams over the cap
The leafs don't want to trade him in their division and likely not in their conference either
They should improve their goaltending

They will start the year short if everyone else is happy. I suspect Timmins, Jones and ??? Will be sent down eliminating the Cap overage. I don't think they trade Nylander this year unless contract talks are way out of whack or they get a can't refuse offer. I expect Nylander to sign a 7 or 8 year deal between $9 and $9.5 million or walk next summer.

Every Year we read about teams with Cap crunches yet they all manage to play??

I think it is established that he will walk. I also think he will hold back a bit considering the Leafs just signed their prima donna and he doesn't want to risk getting hurt. That's the whole thing right there, they signed Matthews and going to let Nylander walk, and they did this while bringing in forwards in free agency.
They're screwed if Matt Murray returns this season. And they already have questionable goaltending.

You do know Samsanov was really good last year right? Like top 3rd of League good. Nothing is established with regards to Nylander, both sides want a deal. Seems odd that this week you think so little of Matthews yet your posts for the last few months want him badly in AZ?? If Murray intended to play this season he would have been bought out and lost some cash, he chose the smart route with LTIR and gets all of his money.

Yeah Murray ain't playing.

I think Bertuzzi on a one year allows them to keep Nylander this season and go all in. They can figure out what to do with Nylander this year (upgrade a defenseman) or let him walk and then just re-sign Bertuzzi who may be a better fit and should be several million less than Nylander.

I would have liked Matthew's here if he would sign for ~$9M. I also admit it was reverse trolling, if that's a thing. I said much earlier I would prefer Nylander over Matthews because of anticipated contracts.
Murray can still get his money if he wishes to come back regardless.

Odds are extremely good Matthews will be a 500 goal scorer when he is 30, dudes like that are f***ing rare and not cheap, I don't know why anyone is even remotely shocked at the price tag. That's what happens when you draft a borderline generational 1C, if they pan out you're going to need to open up the wallet if you want to keep them. Sure the Leafs will face some challenges with that large of salary on the books but even so I can't imagine many scenarios where they are better off without Matthews. Barring injuries he's going to go down as the best Leaf of all time and likely one of the best players of all time, they'd be f***ing stupid to let him walk during his prime. We should be so lucky to have a Coyote draft pick command a salary like that. I'd be doing flips in the parking lot if the market dictated the Coyotes sign Cooley to a $17 million/yr contract in 2030!

I don't think anything is established yet. They also have lots of $$ coming off their books next year.

AM for $9m? Get real.

And Schmaltz does?
Difference is that Keller and Schmaltz were under long term contract when Bill took the reins. They aren't the type of player that Bill looks to acquire but they are our two best forwards, they play better together and they've been cheer leaders for this team staying in AZ.

Bill is only drafting bigger, tougher prospects but he's not chasing the smaller guys out of town. He's also not opposed to signing role players that are smaller.

There simply aren’t a lot of 6-1 215 lb scoring forwards, so teams need the 5-10 170 scorers. It’s what type of player BA wants to surround his smaller scorers with that defines a BA team.

Eh it's one thing to work with a player that is already here and under contract and quite another to go out and trade a bunch of assets for one that will not only cost a ton of money but also doesn't fit the profile of the kind of players you prefer.
Who said anything about trading. We were talking about a so called "profile fit." IF AM wanted to come here on a reasonable contract and not re up with TO we all would be saying "what a great fit.' So everyone can stop with this profile shit because AM signed with TO. AM would have been a perfect fit, a 1C that we haven't had for the last what, 15 yrs.

We are talking players, not contracts. We are talking about AM's not fitting the profile of a player BA likes. AM's may be a p***y, but so is Schmaltz, is all I'm saying. BA likes Schmaltz, and he sure in hell would love AM.

Plus, Nylander is a p***y. He doesn’t jive with BA’s style at all.

The context was Nylander coming here not Auston Matthews.

Starts the clock for Toronto. They got 4 years now before Matthews is 30, Marner’ll be 31, Tavares will be gone. Matthews was getting heat for underperforming in the playoffs before. Now he’s the highest paid player on a strict timeline to win or gtfo? Talk about pressure
I think this is a fair deal for TML and AM. His contract is market value and realistically, TML has the next 4 years to win it all with this group then the window is likely over. At that time AM can walk or they work out a trade and for AM he can get one more big deal done. I think AM has more risk here because of his injury history and potentially fading as a player.

I agree. AM will have earned $122 Mil. at the end of his new contract. I don't think he is too worried about injury or his play fading. One thing that we all know now is AM does not want to be a Coyote in his prime. Who can blame him. TO is a great city, great hockey town.

TML can pay him the most money at this time with Mathews having the least amount of risk. If he could play in AZ for the same money/term today, I think he would do it, but thats not how the CBA works.
