The NHL dropping Pride jerseys next season is so cowardice.

The culture wars are exhausting in general, but the way people on each side are endlessly maneuvering to make and keep profits as a direct result of them is genuinely soul-crushing.

That said, I feel about Pride jerseys about the same way as I feel about the military displays, the anthems, prayers at sporting events, and other performative-for-profit stuff that has little to do with the actual sport. If I thought for a femtosecond that Pride jerseys were actually meant to do what the teams say they are - provide a welcoming sign for people who feel marginalized and make them feel included - I would feel differently.

I should point out, though, that I'm OK dropping Pride jerseys because they're shameless cash grabs... I'm not OK with it if they're doing it to kowtow to the FCA.

Yep. Dump all of the "appreciate this" and "honor that" nights. You could drop the national anthems too. I don't see the point. Is it for the fans to feel patriotic? My patriotism doesn't need a boost. What about non-sports fans? How do they survive without nightly anthems?

(heh....after the earlier "boomer/millenial" conversation in another thread...for the first time I read "dropping" as "releasing" there, and thought "but why is it a bad thing that they're dropp....oh.")

Completely agreed. I'm pro military, pro pride, pro holidays and religion.

But, if it's come to a point where the league needs to "drop" one, you gotta drop all of them.

No more special/holiday warmup jerseys. No more national anthems. Just get on with the games. In today's climate, everything gets politicized, so stop giving people a reason to politicize things.

IIUIC…. They are only dropping the wearing of specialty jerseys during warmups.

Teams will still have specialty nights. They may even still sell specialty jerseys.

They just won’t be “pre-game practice worn”.

The whole thing is just typical corporate pandering BS for cash(which is now backfiring). Nobody cares what sexual preference you are, this isnt the 60s or even 80s. But for the love of god, we deserve a solid star wars night.

Some people do…. and they’re serious about it.

But that will send this down a political hole and I’m not going to go there..

You think Kassian showed a lack of buy-in - wait until you'd see a Blake Wheeler at the end of his career signing for the team he absolutely shat upon after they basically made his career by drafting him over his ranking.
I want BA to somehow convince Wheeler to come here for the league minimum, promising him top line limits to help resurrect his career. Then once Wheeler signs, immediately send him to Tucson, laugh when he doesn't report, and never speak to him or his agent again.
