Given the PGTs on this board I'm not sure we have room to criticize
this last PO appearance from the Jets really subdued me at least from any "plan the parade" dunking on other fan bases.

Woodcroft got a year and a half and during that time Edmonton was good. Bad start cuz no d and no goalies and done.
they all can't have leashes as long as paul maurice

Woodcroft had a record of 79-41-13 with the Oilers, if I'm not mistaken (.642). Pretty good, yet not enough for some reason.
they had a bad 13 games to start.... so the previous 120 games where he was a 0.683 coming into the year basically goes out the door and he's the fall guy. they hired mcdavids old jrs coach too 🤔

Woody is cannon fodder for Holland. Cap hell, poor D, poor goaltending.

Edmonton's Old Boy safety net engaged hard.

When you have a couple of stupid contracts you can't afford a top flight goalie and have to luck into one, that haven't with everyone they have brought in. Drai signed for another year after this one, they have a big decision to make on him

Oilers have been making shortcut moves for years and years now. They pay picks or prospects or bloated FA deals for short term fixes. Then those short term value moves return is used up, and they are right back where they were.

Picking up a Kane and Hyman were huge moves for them. But taking shortcuts in the same way with Lucic, Campbell, Keith, Foegle, etc etc have set them back huge compared to where they would be if they never made them.

problem w/ goalies is that there's maybe 5-6 starters you can truly rely on year-in year-out to be at a high level. Helle is usually one of them.

rest of the position basically flip flops between good years vs bad, or some journeyman getting on heaters.

Well it's starting to appear that this group.of Oilers are untouchable coach killers. This will be McDavid's 5th coach
Star player having a say on player moves and coaching changes = BAD.

I suspect we will see the Oil go on a run where McDavid and Draisatl score a bushel of points and they win 10 straight or so. Still, not a squad that looks like winners when the going gets tuff. Playoff hockey is still tougher and fewer penalties are called. Not conducive to a team that needs PP goals to win.

Right, but when you have "proven horrible" goaltending, even "consistently mediocre" would be like a gift from the gods. Like I simply refuse to believe the Oilers can't find some career .905 starter they could take a spin on. I've mentioned Comrie in other threads, but with Buffalo really trying to get UPL in that #2 Goalie spot, what do they have to lose by knocking on Buffalo's door?

Putting in Paul Coffey as the assistant coach is so unserious. What qualifies a guy who hasn't been a coach at any level other than for 3 years on a kids team in Toronto about a decade ago to be an assistant coach on an aspiring NHL cup contender?
