Rule 16.9.7.5

When two star players collide, the ref will blow the whistle for no apparent reason.

These refs are heroes! No telling what might happen when two stars collide.
From Astronomy:

Stars rarely collide, but when they do, the result depends on factors like mass and speed. When two stars merge slowly, they can create a new, brighter star called a blue straggler.

So, a collision between Crosby and Matthews, given sufficient mass and speed, might have created an even brighter NHL star, a CrosThews, capable of shattering all known scoring records while playing competent defence -- and dragging even a mediocre team to playoffs dominance.

Imagine the consequences.

Bless those refs -- they may have spared us a Leafs (or Pens) cup win.

Haha that was no accidental collision... Watch closely - Matthews knew exactly what he was doing, he's watching Crosby come in - probably should have been an interference call on him
I can't believe that was not a penalty. The Leafs were targeting Crosby that was the third time. Leafs trying to be the bullies now a days ... lets see what happens when Matthews gets targeted.

I liked how Jerry Lawler was all pissed that the refs blew the whistle after the collision too...

"WHAT ARE THEY DOING?!? THE LEAFS HAD THE PUCK!!" he whined...

What is going on now in the 🏜
There's some land in Phoenix bordering Scottsdale that's going up for auction - and the Coyotes owners want to bid on it and build a new arena and residential/retail district there.

The Scottsdale mayor said he'd oppose the Coyotes winning the bid because they're not experienced developers and they don't want this arena on the "doorstep of Scottsdale". But the land belongs to the State of Arizona and isn't actually in Scottsdale. It's north of the 101 and just left of the dotted red line (the border between Phoenix and Scottsdale).

Ah fun times.

I thought it was odd the Coyotes released the big arena and residential area plans (last week or so ago?) before the land bid has even happened. A lot of people on the Instagram post I saw congratulating them on getting the deal done to keep the team and NOTHING being done to dissuade that. Maybe that was the point, fool people into thinking "all good, team is staying".

That says so much about what social media and smart phones have done to destroy critical thinking and promote false (or at least misleading in this case) information.

The Coyotes are saying this is the last shot before relocation, no public money and the Scottsdale mayor is saying "you shady, f*** off "
Bettman: 'I think there's a willingness on all sides - we need to give it time, season ticket base is not a big issue in todays NHL anyway...

That whole thing looks pretty far-fetched, but the most unrealistic part of the simulation is when they showed the inside of the arena at the Coyotes game and it was full lol

I have been assured on the main board that the owners once they have won the auction have the money to build without any public money, I'll believe that when I see shovels in the ground. The only reason the NHL keeps the team there is because of the expansion fees that that the other owners are already counting.

The Coyotes debacle has had so many twists and turns in the past two decades that even an accurate history would be derided as bad fiction. I've followed the legal and political doings fairly closely (we own a few properties in Mesa and Goodyear) and it never failed to amaze me. The in-fighting between the various cities in the valley is astounding.

All that aside, it wouldn't surprise me if Anthony Meruelo can make all this work. He has the money to build an arena, if not the political acumen to go along with his business smarts. I expect he will get his new arena, which is a shame because Glendale was a fabulous place to see a Jets game and we went to quite a few of them.

What the hell is Glendale going to do for an anchor tenant at Gila?

Glendale really was a nice venue with the restaurants and plaza and mall there. The Cardinals still play out there. It's just not very convenient to go to hockey games there 41 nights a season - kind of like the Ottawa situation with the arena being inconveniently located. At least there's development around the Gila. But yeah, when we stayed in Scottsdale it was a long haul to get to the arena...

Its owned by the university so I'll take a stab at it and say University sports.
Your thinking of Mullet ARena where the team plays now and shares with the Red devils. Seats 4,800. The Glendale is where they played for a coupla decades and seats 18,000. Gorgeous place and used to serve a large selection of craft beers, really good ones and not the usual american swill.

That's the current arena (Mullett) that's owned by Arizona State University. The old Glendale arena/Jobing.com/Gila River/Desert Diamond Arena is still owned by Glendale I believe. They don't really have a big anchor tenant.

If Meurelo gets his land and builds on it, he's still going to be a long way from the riches of Scottsdale and Mesa. He's bidding on a parcel north of Windsong above the 101 loop.
