Pretty meh trade... Canucks give up a diamond in the rough 3rd rounder, a guy they probably weren't going to sign and Kuzmenko who was in Tocchet's doghouse

Chevy definitely had the pieces to beat this
My speculation would be that Lindholm was not willing to sign an extension with the Jets and he didn't want to pay that much for a mere rental. Also, Lindholm has been having a bit of an underwhelming season hasn't he (although so has the rest of Calgary).

Is Chevy looking to hit it out of the park or play it safe with depth pieces, position in the Central might decide what he does but I think cost will play a big factor. In Lindholm's case even if the Jets were in on him I don't think he wanted to give up what the Canucks gave up.

Lindholm might not have wanted to play here either. I will go out on limb and say Chevy makes a better trade, especially if we go by the Dubois trade.

I'm happy Lindholm is off the table. To me that's exactly the type of trade teams that want to have perennially competitive teams avoid.

What would have our similar or beating offer have been?

1st in 24, a 27 year old player that looks like he'll score 20 this year and 40 last year, so let's say Ehlers, a b prospect Lucious and then a throw in.

I'd be furious if Chevy gave that up for a rental.

Luckily, Chevy doesn't make awful deals like that.

I believe they'll get another selection
It's interesting to me that the Canes basically outright say they aren't ever going to be big buyers at the deadline. The Jets should follow suit (and mostly have since the Hayes trade). In what other business does everyone lose their brains and buy stock at the same time every year when prices are at their highest and values at their lowest? I can't remember the last time a team won a Cup after giving up tons of assets at a trade deadline. Any larger scale moves shake up the core of a team and deplete future assets. In most circumstances, count me out of that.

If Hayes knocks that puck in the net instead of out we are probably talking about what a genius move Chevy made...

Mostly agree but Stastny was a great trade deadline trade, don't think we get to the Western Conference Final without that trade. That's what I'm hoping Chevy can do again, get a very good second line center but mostly with draft picks and not some of our best prospects coming up soon.

I suppose that depends on how you define "tons of assets." Here are the last two champs' deadline moves.

VGK receives:

Jonathan Quick
Teddy Blueger
Ivan Barbashev

VGK gives up:

Michael Hutchinson
Zachary Dean (2021 first round pick)
Peter DiLiberatore (2018 6th round pick)
2024 3rd round pick
2025 7th round pick

Colorado 2022 Cup Champs:

COL receives:

Arturri Lehkonen (50% salary retained by MTL)
Andrew Cogliano (50% salary retained by SJS)
Nico Sturm
Josh Manson (50% salary retained by ANA)

COL gives up:

2023 2nd round pick
2024 5th round pick
2024 2nd round pick
Tyson Jost
Justin Barron (2020 1st round pick)
Drew Helleson (2019 2nd round pick)

San Jose coach David Quinn has decided that he is going to have his hip replaced during the all star break and be back on the ice in 11 days when the Sharks get back to business, as someone who had a hip replacement I find this highly optimistic.
I also just recently had a hip replacement. I was walking without the cane by day 4 and back on the stationary bike on day 8. I was back on the ice doing light skating by myself at three months, and back into the lineup at four and a half months, albeit very slow and tentative, but I couldn't stand the waiting any longer. Quinn back on the bench after 11-days is very believable from my perspective, back on the ice though, that part might be optimistic as you say.

What is Calgarys plan moving forward? Those huberdud and kadri contractsxstink.
Calgary thought they were so close a few years ago but keeping Johnny Hockey and not getting any assets for him looks like it had a spiraling effect on them, they really didn't need Kadri and were forced to trade Tkachuk. Looks now that they are going to trade Tanev and Hanifin after trading Zadorov and now Lindholm. Major reset coming in Calgary.

I wonder if there's any connection between Calgary's strange player movements in the past couple of years and the political wrangling over a new arena.

I'll I know is that the Saddledome is a shithole and the in-game experience can only be described as "trailer park techno"
Well, they have been crying for most of a decade about the need to replace the arena. Or rather, the need for the city to buy them a new billion dollar palace.

Well they have a 1.2 B place in the works, I don't know if they have broken ground but I can guarantee you when it's all said and done it will cost way more than what they budgeted for, way more.
