It’s certainly not “just luck” but it’s inarguably lucky, inasmuch as it is an extreme case of measured exceeding expected, even considering the oilers skill and even considering their soft schedule.
Even if the oilers were 3-1 favorites in every game, winning 16 straight is still a 1 in a hundred shot. It would be the height of arrogance to deny there’s a lot of luck involved for a result like that. Which means I can count on it like clockwork from the Oil fan base.
Getting supra-Vezinal goaltending from a career sub-.910 helps tons. All the more reason why the mean regression is gonn get meaner.
