I wish I had that many winters left. That would get me to 70 to 80 years of snowmobiling. Winter is what you make of it. Get outside. I must admit though a month in spring and fall would be nice.
I love the outdoors in all seasons... it's just been tough to enjoy it in the winters with three kids that have played hockey. This year I'm down to one, so hopefully I'll get out ice fishing more often

I've also heard that a two week getaway to somewhere warm in February is a gamechanger. Again, with a little extra time and disposable income, we might look at something like that. That's still hockey playoff time for my youngest

All I know is that I can't handle the thought of another 45-50 Winnipeg winters
If the long-term projections are right, in approx. 25 years or so Winnipeg winters will be like Minneapolis winters

- 3.5 months long instead of nearly 5 months long
-average highs of -5 or -6 in January instead of -12.
-less than half the number of -20 days.

For some, that still might not be good enough though.

Funny thing I heard from a neighbour a few years back. When he went to Hawaii a few winters ago, he found out that a good portion of summer vacationers to the islands are from Arizona as they try to get away from the oppressive heat!

Long term projections have never been right

Same as Texas, summers are horrid and people try to get out of them if they can afford to.

Do we need a dedicated TRAVEL thread?

Maybe a retirement thread too, for all these folks who will actually be able to retire rather than work until they die.

I remember my old high school French teacher joking about doing laps of the perimeter to contribute to global warming to help ensure such predictions come true. He better do more laps because I don't think Winnipeg winters have changed much in the last 25 years (when I was last in his class)!

Winters have actually become slightly warmer on average, but only like by .5 degree celsius or so.

Are they shorter now too tho? I seem to remember as a kid there would be snow by Halloween like half the time, and that would be that snow that wouldn't melt until spring even.

5 NHL Teams Destined to Be Worse Next Season

An overly simplified assesment of the Jets, but it's hard not to think their prediction will come true.
I can see Boston falling in the standings after having a record breaking year but the other 4 teams should be around the same mark. Flyers and Preds did not make the playoffs so you can't get any worst. As far as the Jets go we don't know if #37 & #55 are playing or what their return is.
Early season prediction before training camp even starts are just one person's opinion.

I think the Jets are a much better team than the one that went into last season's opener. Legit 4 line depth up front

PLD and Wheeler out

Vilardi, Iafallo, Kupari, Names, Nino in

If shief and helle are around for the whole season, I could see us actually improving over last year depending on how healthy our band-aid types can stay

I also see Perfetti and Samberg taking development steps

Meh… rosters aren’t fixed yet,premature speculation.
I don’t think we’ll be world beaters, I don’t think we’ll be door mats either.
Probably WC fodder but let’s see what we start the season with first.

When the ice didn’t all melt by 2008 cue Al Gore , the song got changed to climate change in lieu of global warming.
‘Tards
Their predictions are always wrong. The “experts” are ECHL quality. It’s all a grift. Most people know this.

But the jets are going to be so hot (if Helly stays for this last season before he gets out of Canada for good) this year, going to be melting the ice!

If we play Schiefele and Helle for the entire season by extending them, or using them as own rentals, I believe we will be slightly better than last season. I like our depth way more and I think our forward group with the addition of the 5 players you highlighted is quite a bit better defensively.

Looks like Toews might retire. If true all the best to him in his retirement. Was a great player and had a great career.

He did it all really. Three cups, conn smyth, World Junior gold, World championship, Olympic gold.

All the games and playoff wars, the wear and tear, caught up with him but he had an outstanding career.

That is such a lazy 5 teams list, lol. And I disagree with multiple teams. Especially the Wild and Nashville are weird picks - it's not like NSH had a particularly good season.

I don't think Minny was straight up expecting to make the playoffs. They'll be fighting around the same spots again. They could land one or two spots below their final result last year but I don't think that would deserve getting written onto a list like that? Seems odd.

Nashville was due to blow it up and they eventually did. I definitely don't expect them to bottom out though. They are a pride franchise with hard working players still. Same like Minny I expect them to be finish around the same spots.

Boston... well. Obviously they're gonna be worse. Lol. Even if they had kept everyone they wouldn't put up an even better record setting NHL season.

Philly is okay I guess? I mean them finishing significantly worse would mean top 3 from the bottom, right? Okay that might happen and it would be a step downwards ... I guess?

Jets might even be the most interesting pick on that list but then again I think it's still to early to predict anything because of the Scheifele and Helle situations. If we start with both on the roster, I highly doubt we're significantly worse. Pretty sure we'd play around the same winning percentage and would eventually again finish up in a wildcard spot. IF we've traded Scheifs and Helle come opening day or in the first third of the season - sure, depending on the return it would be very likely we end up with a clearly worse season. You don't just replace a Vezina candidate goaltender.
