Yeah it's monkey see monkey do in the NHL. They thought the Vegas goalies were random guys and they could replicate that. Now it turns out Aiden Hill is an actual good goalie who will probably be team Canada's starter in the upcoming "World Cup". As much as I hate Vegas, if they had shit goaltending and a goalie like Helle/Saros became available they would have sold the farm to acquire them and figured everything out later.
Vegas' d-corps and all players buying into team defence helps them make up for having "average" goaltenders also. Something Toronto, for example, lacks.

Yup thanks to Vegas winning the cup with just an average goalie some teams thought they could do the same thing and did not want to pay for an upgrade in the net. Now those teams will over pay at the TDL.
Lol just as I wrote this Oilers score 3 goals on 4 shots to take the lead in the 3rd period on the Devils who were too cheap to upgrade.

I think it's more in the middle - Vegas showed they could do it with an average goalie because they're a good team with good players that can commit to playing a well-designed system. Buffalo, NJ, Edmonton - they're missing some, or all, of those components.

Not that I am advocating we trade him but I wonder what LB would fetch in a trade. With so many teams desperate for good goaltending, I am wondering if LB fetches a 1st considering his good numbers so far, his size and Stanley Cup pedigree.
LB playing well will allow for us to give Helly some rest down the stretch and for the first time in years not have to run him into the ground prior to the start of the playoffs. Having a fresh Helly for the playoffs will be as important for a playoff run as anything else Chevy could add. No way you toss that away, when it looks like we will be a legit contender.

Besides, they would find away to use some LTIR cap circumvention space...

Agree, but by the lack of inclusion do you suggest that Toronto itself is A-Ok, no components missing over there?

I think broussoit may be traded at the deadline. Dude has been solid as a backup. I bet Chevy would get a first.
Brossoit knew coming here he was a backup and still signed with us over other teams that he probably would have either been their starter or a good chance of becoming the starter. He obviously wants to be a Winnipeg Jet and that's exactly part of the reason the Jets are better this season, everyone wants to be here , don't think you mess around with that. Well maybe not Stanley though.

a 1st? no chance imo. starters rarely get 1sts just on their own (ie: not considering korpisalo+gavrikov for instance) at the TDL.

Brossoit has been v good as of late after a rough start... idk if after 10 years in the NHL he's all of a sudden going to be putting up starter quality numbers over 40+ games.

I watched the Leaf's highlights lol
their goaltending is umm...lets say sub par
the funny part is i checked the standings and somehow they are in second place in their division
but its all loser points that are keeping them up in the standings
They are basically the St. Louis Blues ..but they get to overtime more
funny how they were ranked higher than us on everybody's power rankings...

No definitely not, but they've proven they're better than their current record is, I suppose NJ did last year but that may have been a one-off, Toronto has been in the top 4 or 5 teams in the league in the regular season for years in a row.

I think their issue right now is the goalie, then the team defence. They don't have the defensive talent Vegas has and they don't have the coaching/strategy to implement a system like Vegas did.

LB is going nowhere this year, finally we can rest Helle and have competent goaltending.
Chevy will still get a decent return trading his neg rights just before free agency... there's a ton of teams that need goalie help

The Sens have nothing on the Sabers who are working on year 13 of missing the playoffs, having 2 - 1st OA picks and 2 - 2nd OA picks and multiple very high 1st round picks along the way.
Both of those teams forgot to rebuild the coaching staff

What are betting odds leaf’s get knocked out first round?

While I haven't seen anything official, I can kind of cook one up with MoneyPuck data. MP has the Leafs at 63.8% to make the playoffs, so 36.2% to miss them. They also have the Leafs at 30% to make the second round or better. Take what's left and you got a 33.8% chance to end their run in the first round. Bake in a 10 point vig and I'd set it at +165 for "Leafs lose exactly in the first round" and -350 for "fail to make the second round".

NGL it kinda blew my mind to see them having such a high changes for the Leafs to miss the playoffs, but heck, like you said -- loser points.

Well Buffalo is just the definition of incompetent, I don't even include them when talking about rebuilds.
