Goals aren't everything though, Mittelstadt might not score as much as Pinto's one career high season but he's better than Pinto in every other category. Dude's a solid second line centre that can playmake and is good in his own end. These types of guys aren't rare, but they aren't the most common.
To be fair, Buffalo has two studs in the middle in Cozens and Thompson. As I said - it’s more about what they ended up with given the 4th overall pick that they started with.
Buffalo clearly saw him as expendable with their depth up front.
Shane Bowers is available after being waived by NJD.
We can finally undo Dorion’s wrong and bring him back where he belongs.
Its funny how both Bowers and Byram are gone from Colorado after what a big deal they made about the trade return.
Ya, it weeded out as time went along, as they always do, but the value on day 1 was astronomical, especially for a player publicly asking out and having little contract runway left.It was a massive return. They were right to be excited about it.
Even if you just look at the value on the day of the trade and ignore the pick becoming 4th overall. They basically got three first round-tier assets (1st+Bowers+Girard) along with a 2nd+3rd+Kamenov. They were apparently offered their choice of White or Bowers, but Colorado was very high on Bowers.
There aren't many trades in the last decade that come close to that kind of haul. Maybe the Eichel trade, considering how valuable Tuch was, it was basically 3 first round picks.

Girard ended up being the best asset of the deal and he didn’t even come from Ottawa.
Byram was undoubtedly the best asset. He was their #3 in a cup win that Girard never played in, and is now Middstadt who is much more valuable than Girard.Girard ended up being the best asset of the deal and he didn’t even come from Ottawa.
His wrist would certainly impact his ability to shoot. I've had wrist surgery myself and can speak to limitations when shooting that stem from wrist.Mid level 2nd pair?
I don't know know about that. He has had to carry the D for years without proper insulation.
If his wrist has been bothering him for a couple years, that would certainly limit his ability as well.
He is a very good player, with one of his solid attributes being a transition guy. I hope we see him flash more of his offensive abilities now that we have more even groups.
Seeing him shoot more than usual in camp is also positive. I think you have undervalued him.
He watches the puck or chases it, doesn't see what his team mates are doing or the opposition. Soft on the boards, light stick, poor positioning and gets pushed out of the way. Somebody here said he is hard to play with..makes perfect sense. You can't really count on him to do his job in the defensive zone. His wrist would certainly impact his ability to shoot. You know what that wrist doesn't impact? Defensive reads. He's not a good defender and a lot of the reason for that is his reading of plays.
OK, that's true, but without knowing where we would finish, and who would be available we can't actually compare the 2.Ottawa could have punted the pick to next year.
There were a lot of immediate comparisons following Colorado’s selection.
I like Byram and there’s still a lot of untapped potential but Tkachuk is a star player at this point.
Forsberg needs to learn from Ullmark, not push him. Forsberg seems to take awhile to settle into a game. By that time, at least 1 goal, usually a softie, has gone in.Its kind of funny, all broadcast last night noodles is talking about how Forsberg can push Ullmark, I feel like Noodles hasn't paid attention to Forsberg for over a year now...
That’s got to be one of the best jobs on the planet if you can get it. It’s virtually no contact. Making 88million$$ in less than a decade?? For playing a game with no risk? (Unlike a forward or d who can suffer serious injury)
Lets go Florida. They'll be hungrier Thursday if they lose tonight lol.Korpi and kasty start now. Playing our first opponent, Florida.
I am also hate watchingKorpi and kasty start now. Playing our first opponent, Florida.
