I get trading Mittelstadt for D help when you have half a dozen talented young forwards coming through the pipeline, but is Byram really what the Sabres need?
I figure it'd be a bad look to move Cozens or Thompson given they just signed them long term. Still, at that point I'd try to move one of their wingers over Mittelstadt

I think Sandin as a PMD will get more minutes. He’s doing those admirably. Same way Chychrun is getting more than Zub, but one fills a role much, much better and is much more important to a team.

I think Chychrun is the better and more proven player than Sandin.

I think both guys as offensive players will get paid a lot more.

I think Fehevery fills his role on a team (especially one built to win) much, much better than either Sandin or Chychrun will.

I don’t think Chych fills a role in a winning team. I think Fehevery can.

But our discussion was about playing time.

Last year Peter Laviolette played the following players more minutes per game than Fehervary: Carlson, Orlov, Sandin, Gustaffson, Jensen. This year Carbery is giving more minutes per game to these guys: Carlson, Sandin, Jensen and Van Riemsdyk.

Call me crazy but I think Chychrun (on either of those Caps teams) is 3rd in TOI/game at worst. Fehervary is a decent player but I stand by my statement that exactly zero NHL coaches would give him more TOI than Chychrun. And that isn't even getting into Sanderson and Chabot when it comes to doling out playing time.

Fehevery is playing the 3rd most minutes in Washington this year, and was 4th last year as Gus and Sandin were traded for each other and both filled the PP role.

He has multiple games added to his ATOI this season with 1 minute played where he left the game with injuries within the first 5 of the game. They drag the ATOI down a significant amount.

Removing those, he’s sitting just under 20 a night for 3rd on the Caps.

Regarding coaches not wanting to play him over Chychrun, I’d think the vast majority in the league who are looking for a defensive player to ply the hard minutes and lead the Pk duties would. That doesn’t mean he’s going to get more minutes, the same way Zub plays that role now with the Sens and plays less than Chychrun.

My opinion on Chuchrun is very, very low.

Our discussion was that Brannstrom, or what I was operating under at least, was that he wouldn’t be getting more minutes in Washington, which he wouldn’t. He’s at best #3LD, and I highly doubt he’s being played ahead of Edmunsson. And they actually have 3 NHL RD.

Chances are he’s healthy scratched for a significant amount of games in Washington, as they don’t have a need to shift a guy from the left onto the right side.

He’s got Chabot and Sanderson ahead of him for sure. He was never going to be getting the 22 minutes a night Sandin is getting here as you said.

He isn’t getting that in Washington either, he’s got Sandin and Fehevery ahead of him. Neither is as good as Sanderson or Chabot.

Sens undoubtedly have more talent on the backend, but the assembly and construction is absolutely horrific.

Now, Would Washingto, or any other team want to give Brannstrom those minutes Sandin is getting? I highly, highly doubt it, but maybe.

Sanderson $8 million 27 points on pace for 40 points.
Chabot $8 million 22 points on pace for 48 points.

Weegar $6.25 million 34 points on pace for 44 points
Andersson $4.55 milion 32 points on pace for 45 points.

We overpaid for Chabby and Sanderson for the numbers they put up and for the for the lack of physicality, shot blocking etc......... they provide compared to Andersson and Weegar.
The Senators have scored 195 goals in 59 games.
The Flames have scored 191 goals in 61 games.
So we are a more offensive team than Calgary and yet Weegar and Andersson will have more offensive output than Chabby and Sanderson. And we are paying $5 million more a season than Calgary. Calgary is getting more bang for their buck.

Just my opinion, but Weegar and Anderson are 2 of the best contracts out there. Tough to compare such good value deals. Especially Andersson, since he's gonna get a big raise soon. And While Weegar makes less, they had to give him that until he's like 37, so another feather in the cap in that the last year or two are likely just spread out cap for a washed up player.

Any other Ryan Johanson's out there that a competitive team needs to shed to make room for a different trade? Use the cap space on that for the rest of the year and send our Belleville guys back to make the playoffs.

Hanifin traded to Vegas

Good news for us. Not sure if they would trade for a D, now there may be more interest in Chychrun.

One of Dorion star signings

Gudbranson was worse for us than Josh Brown, somehow, yet he has really become a solid player in the last couple of years. I had never seen a worse PKer on our team than Gudbranson, and his forlorn looks skyward towards the Jumbotron are burned into my memory.

The year after we had him, when he was in Calgary, he looked much better. They did a piece on him on Sportsnet. He talked about how he was feeling like he was about to be pushed out of the league and needed to adapt to skate and move better, or fade out. He'd done the whole, offseason re-invention with new skating coaches and conditioning his body differently. Didn't strike me as fluff.

Another good deal for Montreal

How is it possible that this gets accepted?

Jan Mysak for Jacob Perreault

Mysak sucks and I would be surprised if he plays in the NHL. Perreault could be a pretty decent NHLer

I really don't get it

I'm surprised they moved Mysak. Figured they'd keep him and develop him to be his friend Slafbustky's linemate.

They are both change of scenery guys. Pretty equivalent.

I don’t want to get in trouble so before I say anything is there a story behind the Boston play by play guy?
I checked. My audio is playing at full speed.

Edit: ok I see jack edwards has some health issues and is slurring his words.
That’s too bad but time to retire then. Sorry.

I wouldn't worry. He made a living taunting people who were hurt so it's fair game
