Anyone else going to watch Game 1 tonight because they like to cause themselves pain?

So, I just want to point out how the salary cap was supposed to create parity, but we've had 4 teams win 10 Cups since the lockout.

Parity is an illusion.

And I believe the salary cap needs to be restructured. Allow teams to retain their own players and not have it count against the cap. External UFAs should count against the cap. That could actually help small market clubs keep their home grown players.

I’ve always thought that the cap should work this way as well. Reward teams for smart drafting and development. Competently managed clubs could build real juggernauts this way, so parity could become a real issue under that model.

4 teams ? Lol

Blackhawks 3, Penguins 3, Kings 2, Lightning 2.

4 teams totaling 10 Cups since the lockout. The only outliers were Carolina, Detroit, Anaheim, Boston, Washington, St. Louis.

6 Cups to 6 teams.

10 to 4 teams.

The same teams keep winning multiple Cups and getting to Conference Finals. There's not much parity.

Lightning could win their 3rd straight. And if we go back to the year prior to the lockout Tampa won. So going back 16 seasons, 4 teams have accounted for 11 Cups. Could be 12 in couple weeks.

I forgot Detroit.

That's not parity, IMO.

I feel parity is an issue right now, IMO.

from 04 to 2021:

TBL 3
PIT 3
CHI 3
LAK 2

Tampa could make it 4 by the end of June.

The same teams have had a monopoly on Cups. And looking at Conference Finals it gets worse.

The cap was meant to create cost certainty for owners, that's it.

Do the Coyotes seriously have 7 of the first 45 picks? There’s no way they make all of those selections.

Not sure about value, but perhaps we send them Lundkvist and Nemeth in return for one of their early 2nds?

Since 04 Tampa has won 3 Cups, been to 5 Cup Finals, 7 Conference Finals.

Jury is still out for this Finals, it could be 4 Cups soon.

By far the most dominant team of the last 18 years.

Ridiculous.

I hope we can have that kind of run. We have made it to 4 Conference Finals and 1 Cup Final since the lockout, but 0 Cups to show for it. If we could've just got the job done things would look a lot different for the Rangers. Hopefully this playoff run was the start of something special for the Rangers.

If we trade Lundkvist, personally I'd prefer to get a young player that can step into the lineup now. Basically equal value just swapping position. A young center.

Not sure if there's a deal to be made, I'm just hoping that's what happens.

That or get a 1st round pick? I'm not sure 2nd round pick is good enough value for Lundkvist.

The thought is that Nemeth has negative value. We need cap space. Pick 34 or 36 isn’t far off from where Nils was drafted and we can then pick a center.

The cap IS giving a parity of the league. Not a parity of end-result, but giving all teams more or less the same clean canvas to create a cup-winning team.

You could give me and an master artist painter the same canvas and 500 bucks and the result would be a work of art from the artist, and some badly painted stick figures on mine if I even managed to buy a paint that would stick on the canvas.

An NHL team is of course way more complex, adding the human interaction of GM's, coaches and scouts. Luck with the difference in quality of the high picks in each draft class. Injuries to both prospects and players. How atractive a teams location is regarding city, climate and taxes.

I was hoping to get more in value for him, personally. I can't wait for the draft because that's when a lot of trades can happen. Really curious how Drury will run this draft.
