what's your problem? Could just say 'I don't think McAvoy is in that tier' and responded to the actual point I made.

McAvoy is definitely among the very best defensemen in the league. Whether you look at stats or not. 10th in Norris voting two seasons ago. 5th a season ago. Likely will be right around 3-5 this year. You're out to lunch.
No problem & I meant nothing personal. No reason to take it that way...didn't mean to offend, but no need to be so sensitive. We're just chatting here.

McAvoy is a nice player....he's a very good 1D....he's just not in the same universe as any of the players you mentioned in your initial post. No chance you trade any of those guys straight up for him, but there's no shame in him being rated a tier below them.

You didn't hurt my feelings. It's just not much of a conversation to say 'no he's not,' then for me to say 'yes he is' and for you to say 'no he's not.'

I don't understand the trade as measurement thing... would Colorado trade MacKinnon straight up for McDavid? That's a weird premise. Would we trade Fox for Josi? I'd definitely trade Hedman or Josi for McAvoy--but that's an age thing...

Anyway, let's just agree to disagree bc I don't think it matters in the end

Can I be excused, you two?

So besides from being the floppiest goalie around, Mike Smith seems to be the most confused goalie around. After 80% of the goals that get past him, he's looking around like "what happened?" or has this "not my fault!" look to him.
He wants to blame someone else so bad. He even did it after the Flames scored from the opposite blue line. But he can’t blame anyone else, because he sucks.

I think we can put the "win with any goalie" in the playoffs argument to bed after watching the West. The only team that had a shot had their goalie get injured and Oettinger floated a team for so long. The rest have been sieves over there.

? The teams with sieves were bad teams, Colorado is a good team that is in the SCF with mediocre goaltending. Stanley Cups have recently been won with the following goalies: Binnington, Holtby, Murray, Niemi. These have all been average goalies in their careers. They may have played well during the run, but they also played for very good teams.

But a goalie can cover more warts than a team with an average goalie. Everyone knew Smith was going to buckle.

Oh absolutely, no denying that. On the other hand, good teams can cover up for their goalies warts as well.

Colorado vs Rangers/Tampa will be interesting because I think Colorado's skaters are playing better than either team in ECF right now, but the goalie will be a great equalizer.

I feel like there are enough images of Smith to make a version of this meme with him.

Can you imagine the pressure on Smith though? The guy knows he’s, well, just a guy, but that dumb ass franchise is putting the weight of the world on his shoulders while they “try” to win something and keep the best player in the world content.

Smith is, or was, a viable backup. On a team that plays decent defense he can win you some games. Throwing him out to the wolves like that was borderline criminal. That team is a joke.

Note, the Oilers were in very clear positions to draft both Jake Oettinger and Spencer Knight in recent years. They walked away from those drafts with Broberg and Yamamoto. They deserve to lose this way for refusing to address that position.

Lol what? You absolutely cannot, and I think he’s one of those legends like Babe Ruth that people say is the best (in Orr’s case, best at his position) just because people are used to saying it and hearing it for 50 years.
Is Willlie Mays your guy then?

Elliotte Friedman last night between periods said Makar will win the Hart next season. Hrudey then said it will be the first of several. The push is real.

Ohhh they tried to do it LAST Year... but then the Avs got their asses kicked by Vegas with Makar and the rest of that defense getting owned.
