I'm late to the goal argument but from the NHL rule book : A puck that is DIRECTED into the net by an attacking players skate SHALL be a LEGITIMATE goal as long as no DISTINCT KICKING MOTION is evident. ABSOLUTE GOAL.

how the ef was that goal called back for Calgary? We've always seen stopping motion kick ins count, wtf was he supposed to do to avoid that? He was stopping before the puck was available, and was also partially tripped by Smith's pad a split second before his hard stop. Some of the calls these playoffs are so strange.

and do what? Ban good goaltenders from the league so we always have this?
lol years and years ago when robo-butterfly goalies became the norm (early 2000's) I wanted the pad rotators gone (how were they even approved in the first place?) so either goalies go back to more stand-up style and acrobatic saves (and more goals) or they could stick to butterfly but not have the super auto-sealed 5 hole. Roy managed to be elite despite that. Can even add some side padding to protect the side of the calf or leg for safety. Can't get the toothpaste back into the tube the Goalie Lobby told me, crappy goals aren't fun to watch they nervously said while double checking over their shoulder that their GAA was still safely under 2.00.

I used to think about this alot. The illustrative example I relied on was the hypothetical future world in which a skin tight super material that was completely protective became available. What would/should happen to goalie pads?

The large pads we see now, along with modern goalie helmets, evolved in response to advances in stick tech that led to the puck moving faster than 90mph on a regular basis. Gotta protect these guys, of course.

But what is protective tech advanced? How would/should that alter the rules regarding goalie equipment?

I personally think minimal to be safe equipment should be the objective. Current equipment goes well beyond that.

I was referring more about the trap. How bout penalizing obstruction, calling the rulebook in every situation, & less game f***ing management? (emphasis directed toward the league, not you)

Goalie equipment can also be reduced as well, but that's not where I was trying to make my point.

Reactions: Captain Lindy
Toropchenko, Kyrou, Thomas all looking dangerous. All young players. Not very high draft picks. Making a big big difference last two games.

Kyrou and Thomas amazing but Manson saves the goal.

Hey look, Col's second PP unit contributed

i must be slow, but when did Henrik join the TNT cast?
He replaced Gretzky it seems. Incidentally Gretzky is at the game in StL, and he was at one of the games at the Garden. Don't know if anything occurred and Gretzky decided to quit.

It's butt clenching time for StL

It's weird that Joe didn't get a national gig. Im used to hearing him after the first round
