So many players leave our org struggling only to be successful somewhere else. At some point we really need to ask….

like who exactly?

The only thing stopping Zadina from scoring while he was on the Wings was Zadina. He got plenty of chances here. It's not like they buried him or only used him on the PK or anything.

Zadina always had the talent to have an impact here, but came up too soon and struggled to swim against the current. There were plenty of times over the last 2 years where he looked great up until the final action - which always suggested he'd improve if he could find confidence/feel more comfortable...its why Yzerman renewed him and clearly wanted to give him another chance, but Zadina took matters into his own hands.

I'm sure he'll do ok on a SJ team desperate for any skill up front to play with their only talent - Zadina has always looked decent when played with the handful of guys he had chemistry with, so if he can find that elsewhere, he'll make us feel slightly sore about his departure. Ultimately what did for Zadina here was Vrana going off the rails, as the two meshed well.

Management can't really legislate for one winger scoring at an elite pace going into either therapy or rehab, and another who underperfomed refusing to report. Its hugely disappointing as Vrana on 3rd line (and making Zadina useful) would be a massive boost for this roster and allow different resource allocation, but it is what it is. These guys are all human. The only comfort is Mantha has been trash in Washington, and there was only 1 F taken in 2018 after Zadina who hasn't also hugely disappointed - and if we'd drafted one of those D we might well not have got Seider

Like who?

Tatar, Nyquist, AA, Mantha, Namestnikov, Svechnikov and Glendening have all been identical to how they played in Detroit.

Who are these players doing better for other teams? Scoring 1 goal doesn't mean better elsewhere.

I'm also going to have to go with "Who?"

Best I could come up with who this could possibly be referring to are Nick Jensen and Tomas Nosek. And like, for the most part they found themselves as solid bottom of the roster players on good teams? Good for them, but they'd still be bottom of the roster players on our bad team if they stuck around over the years.

Athanasiou

Are these the guys that left the org and really took off?

Oh man, remember how Perlini scored 45 goals for that one team?

Me neither!

Even Nosek is the same kind of player. A 4th liner at best. Jensen is the same really too.

Regarding Zadina, having a loose puck come to you in the slot, taking 3 seconds to get a shot off, and then squeaking the shot under the goalies arm all seems on par with Zadina over the years and doesn't scream that he's suddenly turned a corner and he's figured out how to score in the NHL

And I'd add that the occasional player finding new life with a different team is not an indictment on your franchise. Heck, Vegas built 90 percent of their roster that way, but it doesn't automatically mean that the entire league has awful assessment/development.

Every front office makes at least the occasional mistake. It's normal for a guy occasionally to benefit from a fresh start. But I like the majority of drafting and development I see from this regime.

Zadina's Ammunition-Provided-to-Trolls/60 currently leads the league.
