here is a crazy idea....lets just get rid of off sides. Who cares about cherry picking.
League comes up with a lot of ideas to try and increase scoring and pace of game. Take away all those whistles and reviews, and increase scoring chances. Open things up.
Think of even 3 on 3 having the guy at the back end being able to take the puck back, and then immediately enter the zone again without waiting for teamates to clear.

In terms of the abuse of replay, and why it's only for some things and not others, why does a goal scored on a delayed penalty make the penalty no longer exist? Why does a PP end when a goal is scored within 2 min? What's so special about a given goal? That's why an icing call isn't replayed. That's why nobody cares about a missed offsides call if no goal is scored.

If you try and minimize the affect that refs have on a game, you end up increasing it, no matter what you do. Stop calling penalties. Call every penalty. Manage the game. Don't manage the game. Use replay. Use judgment. Police the game. Let the players police themselves.

There's no winning for refs and/or officials. The players know it, so they'll cheat any chance they get. A little hook here, a push there, because the refs can't call everything. Coaches know it, and will use every trick they have. Give them the ability to look at offsides, and they'll take a mile.

That would likely have the opposite effect.

You have a cherry picker. Your team gers hurt in the d-zone. However, because of the risk the cherry picker represents, the other team will keep someone close to him. From 5 on 4, now it's essentially 4 on 4.

3v3 is so wide open already that I don't know how much of a difference it would make. Although it only really opens up once a shot is taken, and gets get out of position. Then you start trading chances at either end and it gets exciting.

This Sabres v. Preds game is pretty good. 3-3 after the first.

2 more goals by Thompson, 1 by Krebs.

I think Buffalo has finally turned the corner as an organization. They're no longer a bottom 5 team. Solid coach IMO. They've got lots of young talent coming in, plus they have 3 1st round picks this year.

Power, Quinn, Peterka are probably all in the lineup next season.

Brutal loss for Nashville.

Their schedule is loaded in April too, really can’t afford to give away points like this.

Only 4 of their 13 games left are against teams out of it. Only saving grace is a lot of home games but still games left vs Florida, Tampa, Calgary x2, Colorado, Minnesota x2.

I didn't realize Dallas had so many games in hand, yeesh.
March was such a dense schedule for the Kings we got way ahead of everyone.. April is much more spread out... but ya some of these teams could leapfrog - 2nd is precarious

More than a few people here seem to be impatient enough for that.

LOL to be honest, if you can get the right pieces for him, you do, young 23 year old C, maybe 25-26 year old LD, and a 1st,

You 100% ALWAYS go with the sure thing.....always. Which is why you almost NEVER see young 23 year old offensive players traded and if you do, it's because there are issues, ala Dubois-Laine etc.

Meh. More satisfying to get in by brute force anyway.

I loved that he had to wrap it around Milano who was thankfully aware

New wrinkle on that move--using a teammate as a pick/screen!
