Every prospect should get a chance to become better.

The fact he was a first overall should not be a factor after just 117 games.

In his case, yes it does [as for any top 5 picks]. He was the most hyped 1 OA since Mcdavid. To only score 17 goals in his first two seasons and be a -29 would be very concerning. Looks like he's starting to figure it out now, but if he was drafted by the Kings, and put up those numbers , he'd be getting eviscerated around here.

I follow every draft and he was the clear #1 but most hyped since ?

Even when he was, it means very little because McDavid was drafted 4 seasons before him and there was Dahlin and Hischier in between.

Yeah, that was my point. While he is putting it all together finally he hasn't lived up to expectations, which is why I consider him a disappointment still. I don't dislike Hughes and me bringing him up wasn't an attack on him or anything, it was just to illustrate that the 2019 draft right now looks poor to me.

At these prices I hope he doesn't
You're right... hmmm. Maybe we should just move Maatta and Walker now. We could probably get a 1st or two at this point.

Dahlin and Hischier were no where near as hyped as Hughes was. How many specials on him did we see leading up to the draft? That's all you heard.Hughes.Hughes.Hughes 24/7 including a Live draft cam. Even Home and Garden TV [HGTV] did a special on him between "How to Renovate a Tree House" and "My Sister Married 3 guys!"

No Dahlin & Hischier weren’t as hyped for obvious reasons.

People thought Hughes would be better so saying he was the most hyped player since McDavid means very little to me with these players in between.

Perhaps i am missing something.

Back to my original comment, Hughes’ career isnt so disappointing so far.

Kind of off-topic but... crazy crazy story in the CCHA Championship Game right now.

Minnesota St. scored in OT to apparently win the tournament and eliminate Bemidji St., the trophy was handed out in the post-game ceremony and the players of the tournament were acknowledged. The fans went home and the refs left. Turned out that the puck actually went through the side of the net and by order of the Commish of the CCHA the game has just now re-started, it was delayed almost an hour so that the officials could return to the rink from their hotel rooms.

The real crazy part of this is a Minnesota St. win would have sent Northeastern to the tournament, a Bemidji win would have them steal a potential at-large spot from Northeastern. So Northeastern was obviously watching this game and thought they had won and made the tournament.

Never seen anything like this.

Edit: Minnesota St. just won again (this time for real). Northeastern can sleep easier.

Could you imagine if Bettman had the balls to have done this in 1999. Should he have?

2005-2010 NJD Zach Parise was one of my fav's.

I think if he didn't waste his career away in Minnesota he could've had some REALLY good seasons.

2003 Parise was my favorite and just waiting to be taken. Too bad Taylor and Co didn't have the balls to try and move up and take him. They just couldn't pass up a 6-8" hs prospect. The fact the NJ did it with the 30th pick, just after winning the cup show how bad Taylor was in that draft. #timeout
