Kind of liking a dice roll on Laine winning the Richard. Wonder what the price will be.

Laine is the kind of guy who could explode in the right situation, and having a distributor like Gaudreau could be it.

That Bjorkstrand value. Surely there was someone out there willing to part with more.

Not many teams (11) have 5.4 mil of cap space to spare at the moment. A few of those teams (Dallas/NYI) are have to keep their cap space for RFAs. Other teams (Arizona/Chicago) might not have the green light to spend.

Bjorkstrand also had a 10 team no trade list, so that probably didn't help things. Good chance that non-playoff teams with cap space (Arizona, Buffalo, Winnipeg, Ottawa, New Jersey) might be on his list. Bjorkstrand at least ends in a no state income tax location.

If Bjork only got that, it doesnt bode well for any return we'd get for Villardi

Columbus had to make a move and every GM knew it.
What return do you expect for Vilardi? I wouldn't expect more than a 2nd rounder, but think if he is only dealt fora pick it is likely a late 2nd or a 3rd round pick.

Teams don't have cap space and that 10 team no trade list reduced the teams in the running even further. Bjorkstrand could essentially control his destination. Columbus had to dump salary. And when all that happens, the return is going to be non existant.

Kekalainen should be fired.

I guess we'll see how the Gaudreau-Laine combo works. Lou got a bunch of flack coming out of the lockout for having issues with the cap (we had to give away a 1st rounder to dump Malakhov) but the team did well enough on the ice.

Although it is crazy to think that Jarmo is the 4th longest tenured GM.

What irks me is that completely inept Gudbranson signing. Not only does it make the team worse in a vacuum, but now it's caused them to lose Bjorkstrand as well.

It's a fireable offense.

Even without Gudbranson, somebody was going to be a cap casualty after signing Gaudreau. But yeah, they paid quite a bit for Gudbranson.

I dont think hed get much, hopefully a similar situation dman prospect, but I dont want to move him.

Probably looking at a Keaton Ellerby 5th rounder type value.

We may have to make a move or lose Gabe to waivers, every GM knows that too.

Yeah but there's a big difference between being ∼5M over the cap, and being only ∼1M over. In the later situation they surely could've figured out how to make it work without losing an important player.

Canadian teams in dissaray right now.

Calgary got nuked.
Winnipeg has the PLD disaster looming.
Montreal is on a race to the bottom.
Toronto has the clock ticking on Matthews. One more 1st round exit and then it's a question if Matthews stays.
Edmonton has that Katz scandal.

Ottawa seems to be righting the ship. Is this real life?

Any reason you are using dated data for Bjork?

I checked my phone and saw my friend sent me a tweet.

I legit thought it read Matthew Tkachuk to LA not FLA and I almost fainted.
