Zero chance that is happening if they want to keep Debrincat. Stuzle is already their 2C and cheap. They won't have 5 players making over 8 million.

especially finishing in the bottom 5 last year. Plus, all those new players still have to work together, which doesn't happen all the time. From what I've read, he wants to play in the states and be the "main guy' on the team. Like that won't cause problems.

He'll get a bridge unless he explodes this year and becomes a PPG player

Tkachuk, Norris, Batherson, and Chabot didn't get bridge deals, so I'll doubt he's getting one. Ottawa knows what they're doing, so he'll get close enough to a PPG player for a big 8 year deal.

Nino signing for less than his cap hit last year has to be prove about income tax teams having an advantage no?

Perhaps - very surprised what he signed for considering his stats the past 2 years. Nino took a 25% (almost) pay cut for 2 years. Between Nashville and Carolina that difference can't be all taxes. Perhaps Nino realized not everyone is stupid like Chuck Fletcher.

Ottawa is worse than Calgary with players leaving. I would also give out term so they don't leave, that does not mean they know what they are doing. They have space and are using it to lock up the kids that actually produce. It's not rocket science.

Only recently have players been choosing to leave Calgary. Or, that Calgary has had players that were worth caring about if they wanted to leave. It's a couple untrustworthy American boys at that, so, we'll see how it goes.

Ottawa, it's always been about money. Karlsson was happy there, they just didn't want to pay him. Same wirh Stone, and Spezza, and whoever else. Now that they're spending money, a guy like Giroux doesn’t mind it there.

agreed with this, I do think that facility is beocming more of a topic as well. Ottawa is on verge of getting a shiny new rink and I think that helps with the sales job for some of the younger players.

We'll see if Debrincat signs there and if they pony up big $$ for him. Giroux went for the money and term also he is closer to home in his retirement years. No UFAs are thinking of making long term commitments to Ottawa unless they start making the playoffs and get a new rink.

Yeah Ottawa bent over backwards to hurry up and pay Norris so there's no way Stutzle gets a bridge.

On one hand it looks smart locking up your young core on what they COULD do...on the other hand...they're already completely shot on cap flexibility. Best of luck there.

It's clear Dorien is banking on the youth developing given the long term extensions he has given out. Cannot say I would do anything different if I was a GM given the length of employment

Agreed to lock up core but giving Stutzle 7-8 million when he is still a 100 foot player would not be ideal. Let's see how it all ends up before we say they know what their doing. Debrincat also needs a new deal, next year will be interesting in the capital. You can't have a top 6 all making close to 8 million per and possibly still not make the playoffs.

I find it extremely comical that pundits and fans keep joking on social about that but there is literally zero evidence Matthews wants or has said anything even remotely about LA, like ever.
It doesn’t stop them from printing, talking or twitting it..
The only thing I could think of is him being of Mexican heritage on his mothers side and LA has the biggest Mexican & Mexican-American population in the US..
He’d be treated like Fernando Valenzuela was.. but he could also return home to Arizona.. which isn’t that far from LA lol

For all the times we have to listen to smug superiority complex about so and so 'wants to play in a real hockey market' it's worth needling Canadians that Matthews will return to the Pacific Southwest for the reactions alone.
