This is the same conversation we've had with the Kings since 2015. They already had Markstrom, added Coleman last summer, they weren't traded Gaudreau. They weren't thinking about rebuilding. Most teams don't want to flat out suck for years. It's really only when players force it upon you that you do so, and now this could be an example. However, the Islanders didn't rebuild after losing Tavares for nothing, so who knows what Calgary does.
And at the deadline? They finished 6th overall. They had 3, basically 4, 40 goal scorers. They had 2 guys hit 100pts, and another pt/game guy. They had a Vezina finalist. There's not a single GM in the league, or in sports, who trades his leading guy if you're in that situation.
