Does anyone think the Avs are going sit tight with Georgiev and Francouz? Only about 5.5m wrapped up in those guys. They may think they can get by with that since Kuemper was nothing special and they won the cup.

Chicago is having a fantastic off-season.

This is how you clean out a stagnant franchise. You don't worry about the feelings of fans or players, you clean house, suffer, and establish a new identity free from the successes and failures. The fans will be there, and the memories will never leave - you don't sacrifice that to keep a couple of players happy.

Not every trade has to be "won" on paper, if you can't get where you want to go with someone the value is in the cleanse as much as the return.

LMAO Fantastic off-season......trading a 24 year old 40 goal scorer for jack shit...... oh yea, that's fantastic

Who else is out there worth giving up assets in a trade.....or big money etc? Maybe they bring in a 3rd veteran goalie just in case, but I think they stand pat with those two

No one that I know of. Georgiev never plalyed over 33 games in a season.. and his save percentage isnt that impressive. Im not sure they strengthened the position at all. They may go into the season like this and look to make a trade. This position is definitely the achilles heal of their team as it stands.

Possibly, but that's better than overpaying for say Cambpell in cap space, or Gibson in assets...and realizing they aren't that much of an upgrade etc.

Kubalik, like Cernak, got rubbed the wrong way by the Kings and chose to not sign here. He’s not going to sign here as a free agent.

It wasn't about strengthening the position. Kuemper is a 32 year who was always going to be a 1 year guy. Wasn't a career Av or anything, so easy to let him walk. DL probably re-signs him. Georgiev is about getting a guy with some potential, at a low enough cap hit, to help the rest of the roster. Since Kuemper wasn't spectacular through the entire run, in theory, the Avs are thinking they can win with whoever in net because the rest of the roster is so strong. Maybe. Doesn't usually work for more than 1 year, but we'll see.

A few things to note about the cap.

The Kings are carrying over 1 million on Phaneuf buyout that comes off the books next year.

The Mike Richards number goes from 900K to 700K next year (saves 200K).

Quick is a UFA next year (makes 5.8 million).

There is another 1 million on Austin Wagner's agreement that comes off.

So for next year, the Kings have about 8 million more to play with and that's not considering the Cap goes up. I would def re-sign Quick for less and lock up Moore, that will eat some of the money. The only other notable RFA's are Bjornfot and Kupari.

Capfriendly has Spence and Bjornfot on the Kings and they both make almost 900K and are both eligible to play in the AHL.

Also, Kupari and Byfield almost make 900K each and are also eligible for the AHL.

I know there is shuffling back and forth between the NHL and AHL the Kings can do to save money.

This is actually a good point. Though all but about 8 grand of Wagner’s deal can be (and has been) buried in the minors. So it’s actually 7 not 8 million free cap space next year to look forward to.

From what i remember, the primadona Kubalik wanted a guaranteed spot on the roster, no AHL time, as a 7th round pick. Dean or Rob told him to pound sand. Cernak was traded and the wrong move for sure, because he was ranked low on the depth chart. Dean just couldn't let go of Gravel, LaDue, or McBain who are no longer in the league. Cernak turned out to be the best of the lot. I really hated that trade.

Let's also not forget that Kubalik played two seasons of junior hockey and, as it got difficult, he went home.

Granted, he's still a kid and I don't blame him for wanting to stay in his comfort level, but when someone wants guarantees to stay up in the NHL when he didn't even want to try it after two seasons in major junior hockey, it's a good idea to beware and not want to promise anything.

Can the Kings technically sign all their Rfa's , go over the cap at the moment and deal in the summer to get under the cap by Opening night?

yes I think by 10%. Then trade Iafallo back home to Buffalo for picks and Bishop. We'll have LTIR room for opening night with Bishop and a potential 3rd Goalie in cases of injuries after the TDL.

But that's just me thinking out loud.

as long as they do not go over 50 contracts yes.
According to Cap Friendly
ROSTER SIZE: 17/23 (Does not include Doughty or Walker)
CONTRACTS: 37/50

4 spots on the Kings available, and 13 contracts can be signed.

*With Carl and Lias signed, make that 2 spots and 11 contracts.

The roser size limit on Cap friendly does not really matter in the offseason. Teams will need to get to 23 before start of year once wiavers are in place
