I thought I heard on one January telecast that Edler might return this season. I don't remember the exact wording if it was maybe in the spring or simply sometime after the Olympics. Obviously, we would hear about him skating on his own at least a month before he could return and that hasn't happened yet. April 28th is the end of the regular season so time is running out.

Went in a rabbit hole with the 1999-00 Leafs during a discussion on the History of Hockey board. They had some bad luck and self-inflicted mistakes going into that season. Those Sundin era teams always seemed on the cusp but they could never get over the hump.

- They sign winger Jonas Hoglund in the offseason which made Frederik Modin expendable. They trade Modin to Tampa for 3rd pair D Cory Cross. To make room for Cross, they ship out older but useful D Sylvain Cote.

- Dmitri Khristich had a contract dispute with Boston. Toronto ends up trading for his rights and signs him to a four year deal. Khristich ceases to be a useful top six player almost immediately. In order to make room for Khristich, they waive Steve Sullivan who is a useful winger for most of the next decade.

- Bryan Berard suffers his unfortunate eye injury. It happens after the trade deadline, so Toronto can't add depth to their blue line.

- Yanic Perreault and Nik Antropov both suffer season ending knee injuries in the first round of the playoffs. As a result, one of their NCAA prospects Jeff Farkas makes his NHL debut in the playoffs and scores a goal. Despite the injuries, they're tied 2 games apiece against the Devils.

- Reliable 2nd pair defender Alexander Karpovtsev gets pulled early in Game 5 due to an irregular heartbeat. This keeps him out for Game 6. Without Berard/Karpovtsev, Toronto has to play Greg Andrusak and Gerald Diduck in a must win game to unsexy results. Toronto only musters six shots on net as they get eliminated.

With the benefit of hindsight, they could have been in a better spot had they just kept Modin/Sullivan/Cote instead of Hoglund/Khristich/Cross.

I guess you had to be there.

Ahhh yes, Dmitri Khristich, our default superstar following the end of the Los Angeles Oilers era and key piece to ignite the legendary period of Jozef Stumpel 1.0

f*** the hawks. I will be doing something at the Kings-hawks game later this year. Not sure what yet, taking suggestions.

Anything I can think of would not be directed at the right party. It should be something around tanking some particular investments, but attending a Kings game isn't required for that. Hitting a shitbag like Wirtz in the bank account is the only way to get their attention, as they've lost all their humanity.

Damn - what a f***wad. I mean, shockingly so.

Edit: What gets me is the indignation and the nonsensical logic. So, only employees of the organization can ask the question? He doesn't think fans, business partners, or potential future personnel are going to want to know? He thinks after that little conniption some no-name employee with no power is going to want to ask him that question one-on-one?

He's rich, but what a shit leader.

I see a lot of people getting triggered by this, I like it. I appreciate when people reveal to me the level of their moral depravity. We should appreciate the candor and realize how f***ing wretched these people are. I don't need someone with motives like this guy doing the normal corporate America PR BS spin. Just tell us how you really feel and we'll take our money elsewhere.

I'm really glad that he showed his ass tonight. There's really no pretending. I hope they bleed STH this week. There is really no reason for Chicagoans to give two shits about that franchise until the Wirtz family is no longer involved. Hopefully Bettman pulls a Donald Sterling on Wirtz.

If I was a Chicago fan I could still support the team because they were there before him and they'll be gone long after. But this is the beauty of capitalism, everyone can vote with their wallet and it'll hit him hard. It's happening in Buffalo right now. It's a shame they have so much history and now it's being run by some arrogant douchebag.

There are a lot of scumbags associated with that org. Bill Wirtz, Bobby Hull, the 2010 FO, and now Rocky has shown his ass. It's incredibly unlikeable. Not to mention their logo needs to go. I've been talking about it on the Hawks forum. It's ok to go to a bird logo. They don't even have to change the name.

Big Yikes.

I always figured baby Wirtz couldn't have been much better than Papa, who Chicago fans...didnt like would be putting it mildly and who could blame them. But this is a whole new level of public lack of shame or self awareness, i'm actually kind of impressed and agree w/ @Reclamation Project that in some ways it's nice he didn't even bother with platitudes and just came out middle fingers blazing.

Eric Stephens reporting that the Ducks have hired Pat Verbeek to be new GM.

Little Ball of Hate! Corey Perry approves.

I know nothing of his mgmt background to be honest, was surprised to see his name pop up period, pretty cool blast from the past

Me too, I guess he's been asst. GM for the Wings, been working with Stevie Y since TB. I guess the Kings aren't the only ones who have the 'good ole boys' club.

Buffalo is an odd one because that same owner (Pegula) owns the Bills and they have become a pretty solid franchise the last little while. They have hired the football ops staff there and the team culture built seems to be quite good.

But the Sabres are just a big clusterf***.
