I get that Dustin Brown is everyone's scapegoat this year, but this kind of obsession is a little weird.
Yes, Brown has 1 power play goal in 43 games, but he's also fourth amongst forwards on the team in goals for per 60 minutes on the power play (ahead of Kopitar, Kempe, Iafallo, and Moore). The Kings are scoring when he's on the ice, which is what you want on the power play from a team perspective. No one seems very angry about Phillip Danault's 1 assist in 44 games.
I would agree about Brown in OT. 3 vs. 3 seems built for players like Kempe, Athanasiou, Moore, Byfield, speedsters that can score off the rush.

I think he's saying 1 PP point in 43 games. That is unacceptable for any team vying for a playoff spot.

Brown has 2 PP points in his last 64 games. No, they are not scoring when he is on the ice.

Danault shouldn't be on the PP either, and most likely won't be when the first kid steps up and claims his spot. But his game is light years ahead of Brown's right now, that's why nobody is complaining.

The Kings powerplay is scoring? The Kopitar unit? That's news to me. You must be here from an alternate timeline or something.
I know it's hard to believe, but these are the numbers, and there is Brown at 4th amongst forwards for Goals For per 60:

after game 7 and the 1-5-1 start, the Kings are on a 105 point pace. That's with all the injuries and special teams issues. So there is hope for the season, especially if the PK and PP get to league average.

Stutzle looking good so far. Let’s hope Tryfield gets more than one minute of icetime to show the haters

Theres a really huge time on ice gap from him to the players behind him. So hes last out of 1st pp unit forwards pretty much is what you are illustrating?
If you wanna count Brown as 1st PP unit, then the team scores more when he's on the ice than Kempe or Kopitar in terms of goals per 60 minutes. So what I'm illustrating is he's not last. Brown is probably doing things on the power play that don't get points for him, like providing screens.

If you want to know why the team is not scoring on the power play, look at the bottom of the list. Danault and Iafallo are your real problems.

Now compare it to the rest of the NHL.

Arvidsson and Brown are ranked 79th and 80th in "on-ice GF/60" among forwards with more than 100 minutes played on the PP.

Stats need context.
Yup. The Kings' power play suck as a whole, but pointing a finger at Brown misses that point. Brown is not productive, but he's not the main problem.

I don't think this is one of those things where you can look at one guy and relative stats and say "ah hah... THIS is the reason the powerplay works or doesn't work"

I think these things need to be dealt with holistically and sometimes if you're not part of the solution etc etc etc

For context, the league average for power play scoring rate is ~7 goals per 60 minutes. The only current Kings regular above that rate is Sean Durzi.

Everybody but Durzi sucks on the power play.

Yea Danault and Iafallo are a problem on the pp as are Kopitar and Doughty.
Brown doesnt have to carry pucks in or do anything on the boards or even make passes he just goes to the net. So he doesnt have the same responsibilities as the other guys so he shouldnt be to blame but he also does very little to help. They need to rethink the whole thing. I sometimes think just running the normal lines would produce better results.

To be fairrrrr.... we would have to check those stats for games that Sean Durzi has played in vs games he hasn't.

SO TO THE STATS MOBILE

In the 28 games since Durzi joined the team...

Kaliyev, Moore and Durzi all have more than 7.00 GF/60

In the 19 games BEFORE Durzi joined the team...

Arvidsson 9+
Kaliyev/Brown 7+

everybody else lower than 7

What does it mean???? I don't know.

It means Durzi has made difference in the power play scoring rate. Being that he's on the second unit, it has helped Kaliyev and Moore, who play on the second unit as well. It's clear Roy is not cut out for power play quarterback.

Durzi is just elusive and decisive. It's been so long since I've seen that on the blueline in LA. Doughty and Kopi still look to pass it in the net. You can almost see the gears grinding as they hold the puck trying to decide to shoot or not.

The pp problem is the amount of time the puck is on the stick of Anze and Drew per touch and the passing is like a paint by numbers power play. The puck moves from 1-2-3 with each player holding the puck for a few seconds. Need some one touch passes and occasionally go 1-3. Finally, someone needs to take a shot that at least forces the goalie to make a save. They did these simple things opening night. They are capable of not sucking. Without this, it doesn't matter if it is Brown or Ovechkin out there.
