Kinda OT but the Athletic got bought by The NY Times.

The San Jose Sharks have informed Evander Kane that he has been placed on unconditional waivers with intent to terminate his contract for breach of his NHL Standard Player Contract and for violation of the AHL COVID-19 protocols.

Poor Evander, it's always everyone's fault but his. At least that's what I'm told every time he has an incident.
On the real I hope he learns and gets his life together. You don't' get a much bigger wakeup call than going from 1st line to out of the NHL. Guy has a lot of demons and needs some real help.

Him and Antonio Brown should hang out and compare notes.

So do the Sharks get cap relief for this be cause if so that seems crappy for the rest of the teams in the league that didn’t give terrible long contracts to total head cases.

Not sure but if they do it's because he breached his contract, something those others did not.

The NHLPA will file a grievance.

If settled, cap hit follows terms of the settlement. Plus any accounting for the front loading of Kane's contract by $2 million.

Leafs blow a 3-0 lead a 4-1 lead and lose in OT 5-4 to the Aves. Gotta love the '22 Stanley Cup champs. If Aves can just get legit goaltending. Sakic has drafted and developed some of the best young group of players.

Trade them Quick, bet it would happen.

Wonder what the Kings offered...he'd be a a great pickup

NHL Rumors: Jakob Chychrun and Evander Kane - NHL Rumors

Sportsnet: Jeff Marek said that the Arizona Coyotes have had at least 10 teams inquire about defenseman Jakob Chychrun, and that there have been several trade offers that have given them pause.

“So what the Coyotes are looking for is a young player, a high-end prospect plus a first-round pick,” Marek said. “Teams we believe who have the assets and could do that and might be interested include the Los Angeles Kings, the St. Louis Blues and certainly the Anaheim Ducks, who might be losing Hampus Lindholm to unrestricted free agency at the end of the season.”

The 23-year old has three years left on his deal at a $4.6 million cap hit.

So Yotes would be looking likely for something along the lines of Turcotte/Clarke + Kaliyev/Vilardi/Bjornfot/Kupari + a 1st from us. If Clarke's in the deal it'd be a non-starter for me. Kaliyev would also likely be a non-starter. I'd do Turcotte + Bjornfot + a 1st though. I'd assume they'd want a future higher end defenseman back in any deal.

Clarke/Byfield are definite non-starters. Let's look at these three components though -- 1st round pick, high end prospect and young player. Who can beat our offer overall that would actually be interested in such a trade?

  1. 1st round pick -- i can't imagine any team interested that would be considered to have a better #1 pick at this point. There's no guarentee we get into the playoffs even with Chychrun. Still even if we top-2/5 it, them getting our 2023 pick could be very valuable.
  2. High end prospect -- Turcotte (or someone else they may prefer besides Clarke/Byfield) -- someone can beat this, but we're very competitive on this item. Plus, i'm looking at the whole 3 pieces combined. Could even be GV here.
  3. Young player -- Bjorn, Kupari, etc. Like piece 2, someone can beat us but we are relative competitive.

Overall, we have the best package. I think the #1 pick is the most valuable...and most valuable to the Yotes as well. We could easily throw in a 4th very valuable piece like JAD, Fagemo, Akil, etc. without hurting us one bit -- but being a nice additional piece to the Yotes rebuilding process.

Personally, i would not do the deal. I am super conservative and i think we'd be giving up too much. But taking my own conservative nature out, i do think the Kings should seriously think about that deal considering the vast amount of young prospects/assets they have and the dire need for a LHD with size.
