Shame, fear, guilt, PTSD. Fear of not being believed, especially as he is a male victim. Probably believed that if he went outside of the team he would be dropped by Chicago, and given their actions he’s probably right.

There are likely lots of reasons, it’s not simple. He disclosed to someone he trusted, to his team that absolutely had a duty of care. They threw him under the bus, backed it up and ran him over again.
Yeah, it's hard, but if you don't do it then your attacker will attack someone else. You can't assume HR or your boss are going to act in your best interests. Their best interests are the company, not you. Maybe the police screw him over anyway, but that's really the only option as hard as it is.

He says no based on the information he had at the time. He even says if he knew more he likely would have done something different. But those questions are inherently unfair because the questioner is fishing for a specific response.

But is anyone going to ask Kyle why he didn't file a police report?

There's a multitude of reasons why the majority of victims don't report an attack. Pick one. My guess is -at least in part- on the concern such a report would get him blacklisted out of hockey. At the time he happened, he's a 20 year old 1st round pick who legitimately could believe he'd made millions in the NHL. Hard to risk the potential for a dream career and the riches that go with it on the faint hope his report would be taken seriously, especially after his own team and his own players association did f*** all.

Well his career didn't last that much longer after the incident by not doing anything.

Totally missing the point here. He didn't report it for a reason. Could be money, could be fear, could be a conviction no one would listen, could be embarrassment. Could be anything. There's no reason to ask why because there's so many valid reasons why he didn't.

So you let another assault happen to someone else, then try to make some cash off it down the road? Sounds a little scummy to me.

We’re you born with no empathy or did it slowly erode over time?
I have empathy. I'm also pretty cynical. It's a conundrum. But if being afraid is an acceptable excuse for not reporting a crime, why aren't we giving the executives that benefit of a doubt? Maybe they feared losing their jobs or having their reputations tarnished.

Because they are ****ing victims. They have been traumatized and been violated by people they trust.

Then when they do tell the police, MORE ****faces ask dumb **** questions like "Why didn't you fight him off?" "Are you sure you didn't want it?"

His teammates taunted him, FFS.

You can be cynical if you want, and you've also not been victimized. Imagine coupling that cynicism with actual sexual assault?

I didn't say anything about fighting anyone off. I said going to the police to report a crime that you are a victim of.

And I'm saying:
- he was sexually assaulted by someone he trusted
- he was bullied and mocked by teammates and friends he trusted
- he was ignored by a union hired to protect his interests
- he was betrayed by bosses who counted on a victim ultimately being powerless.

Not just Beach. Sexual assault goes unreported for various reasons. Beach just had a few more reasons. He understandably might not trust the police, considering the resources he did trust betrayed him.

At this point you are being willfully obtuse at best, an ass at worse. Questioning/shaming a victim for not reporting a crime isn't done by professionals who deal with this issue for a living because they know better. You're suggesting he's being scummy. Just stop.

Sabres won again. And they've got us next. They could start the season 6-1-1.

So you're telling me the assistant GM, who was in the meeting and knew about the incident doesn't deserve to be punished? How is being the Assistant GM not part of the senior staff?

Although your post is true. You starting it off with "So you're telling me..." made me read the whole thing in Huell Howsers voice and now I am giggling my ass off at something serious

At some point, if your boss says he is going to take care of something you don't

At some point, if your boss's boss tells you he is going to take care of a problem, you are going to take his words at face value, I think.
