i'm not seeing an attack on freedom of choice, i'm seeing someone failing to understand that there are also consequences to those choices

he can get whatever surgery he wants, that doesn't mean the team has to assume the risk. kid's a stud, if he's confident in the surgery he can come back and get another contract right? why's the team supposed to be the one holding the bag?

The arrangement is collectively bargained. What's the NHLPA supposed to do with Buffalo following with the agreement?

I don't remember freedom of choice of surgery from your hockey club in the Constitution's first amendment.

Eichel can do whatever he wants, but there are consequences to it. I'm on his side even, I think he should get the surgery he wants and deal with the fallout after the fact.

There is a reason the NHLPA hasn't got involved with the Eichel situation, this could open a whole can of worms. The CBA gives teams control over which procedures their players get for insurance and liability reasons. Challenging it would be challenging the CBA itself.

Lehner tweeted it was not doctors or trainers handing out benzodiazepines. Benzodiazepines are schedule IV controlled substances.

Please correct my understanding if I am wrong. Did Leher just accuse Vigneault of personally handing out benzodiazepines?

If so, that's trafficking. A massively serious felony.

That's a really serious accusation to make. At the trafficking level, the standard for immigration trouble drops to "reason to believe". It doesn't even have to be ultimately true. Only "reason to believe".

CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE TRAFFICKERS- Any alien who the consular officer or the Attorney General knows or has reason to believe--
(i) is or has been an illicit trafficker in any controlled substance or in any listed chemical (as defined in section 102 of the Controlled Substances Act (21 U.S.C. 802)), or is or has been a knowing aider, abettor, assister, conspirator, or colluder with others in the illicit trafficking in any such controlled or listed substance or chemical, or endeavored to do so... is inadmissible.

This just got juicy lol

letting his recent rise in attention get to his head, imo
I disagree. We don't have enough players who speak up about players mental and physical health. There have been more people in the NHL who have spoken against taking the covid vaccine in the last week than there have been for mental health and physical health abuse in the last decade

God damn

Either Lehner just broke a major story in the name of justice

or we're playing against Laurent Brossoit all year

That being said after everything we've seen in the last 12 months no one in the world is shocked at all about how dirty the hockey world is behind the scenes

Would it really surprise anyone to know that players are getting ahold of some high grade pain killers and staff could be suppliers? Lehner is so unfiltered, but the guy could be breaking something big for no other reason than because the Eichel situation pisses him off.

According to Dreger, the NHL and NHLPA is involved in the Eichel situation. NHL, NHLPA Jack Eichel Buffalo Sabres - TSN.ca

Lehner is the messenger being shot in real time. I think lost in the uproar is that il/legal substance abuse is a global human problem and isn’t an NHL centric issue. Society is inconvenienced by the truth that a huge number people at all levels and walks of life turn to drugs to cope with their struggles. It’s not just the burnouts and villains involved, they are the easiest to pick out from the crowd.

All signs point to Mike Richards struggling with treating pain at the end of a career cut too short. Whenever I see a story about the dark side of sports, remembering him gives me reasons to pause and not dismiss the topic because it detracts from the entertainment.

i just have a beef with sitting back and letting it happen for years, making no attempt to prevent it, then going on a rant on twitter on someone else's behalf when it's convenient and people are paying attention to you

nothing against what he's saying, i just think it's completely tactless

If this is what it takes to bring awareness/change, I'm for it. Definitely support his message and he's been a consistent advocate for mental health and health otherwise, I appreciate his outspoken nature.

I don't really like that he went on a random bender last night, like there has to be a better way than just getting upset one night at home and ripping off Tweets.

It's a tough situation, and maybe it works, but I get the feeling that instead the NHL is just going to tell him to shut his yap, and nothing will have been accomplished.
