You don't see pettiness of that level among sports franchises every day, holy crap is that hilarious
Aren't we (the Kings) the ones that started this?
Really is a lose-lose for MTL honestly. They either lose face or overpay their guy. Is it SMART for Carolina probably not, but they obviously are comfortable enough to do it.
Now what's REALLY entertaining is watching the MTL fans pivoting from shitting on Danault to suggesting KK isn't good either
definately in the hunt. I think the WIld , Rangers and Bruins are right there as well.
Bruins need an upgrade, their top center is 36 and they don't have a 2C. Coyle and Huala don't make a strong top 9.

It's amazing how many people, including Kings fans, don't realize how good they have it until quality players are gone.
What's the Habs center depth going to look like if they lose Kotkaniemi? They already lost Danault and if they lose Kotkaniemi its basically going to be Nick Suzuki and friends
He’s now apparently no more than a 3rd line C.They may wind up with a late 1st and a 3rd for someone who was a third overall pick three years ago, and someone Habs fans thought would be one of their top two centers alongside Nick Suzuki.
It’s an overpayment but if MTL walks away I’d bet he signs an extension quickly for a lower AAV. If that happens it’s a master stroke. If MTL match, as you say, they are stuck with a horrible QO each year.Eh, would you trade Vilardi for a likely late 1st and a 3rd?
As far as $6.1, I don't think he will be worth it this year. But as it would be a minimum for a qualifying offer, he may be worth the contract in the future.
It's definitely a lousy situation. Either overpay for one year or underpay for the draft picks.
Sadly, it is probably being marketed by a 21-year old wanker, and that is their level of intelligence. What the hell is sports social media becoming? I clicked on that link and all it shows is a bunch of juvenile memes. Is this how teams are marketing their product now? Hundreds of employees, hundreds of millions of dollars, global brands, and it's all being marketed by some wanker that acts like a 13 year old child. So embarrassing.

There it is, DGB said it better than me
Honestly after the hundreds of bullshit posts we've had to endure since the Danault signing this is glorious to watch.
To the few great Canadiens fans who came over for good discussion, sorry guys, stinks to happen. To the rest...time to turn your attention to a different offseason tire fire
Makes me think of the Seinfeld episodethe Hurricanes really are taking the bunch of jerks moniker to the limit. I love it
The real point here is, don’t weaponize signing sheets if you’re a GM. It could come back to bite you in the ass. A former 3rd overall pick who has played legit NHL minutes in the playoffs is worth WAY more than a late first and third. Montreal is screwed either way. If Bergevin lets Kotkaniemi go, the team that made it to the finals is set way back. If he matches, then you’re overpaying your young player way too much. Either way the Canes are laughing their asses off.
I get that, but the offer sheet is a one year deal (unless I heard wrong). That means he can immediately begin negotiating an extension to that deal. Whilst his QO would be 6+ he could negotiate a multi year deal at a lower AAV, with just next year playing him 6.1 . Sorry, I wasn’t clear. I don’t think it’s likely btw, but it would be funny. For clarity, He can't sign for a lower AAV. If Montreal walks, he will be a player on Carolina and he'd make $6.1 million this year. If I misunderstood, I apologize.
The point is, he's stuck with a horrible QO each year until a team decides not to qualify him or he's free agency eligible. The question is will it be Carolina or Montreal.
There's no point in doing an offer sheet if you're not going to go above what the player's current team is willing to do. The existence of the offer has to be weaponized by its nature.
If Carolina gets him, they're over the cap, out a 1st, and themselves now have a potentially overpaid young guy to deal with.
