Hank is one of the few HoF goalies of this generation. Consistent over a number of years and rule changes, successful on good teams and bad. Guy was a freak and a genuinely good human being. Congrats to him.

Of course, I have to thank him for the memories, and I'll never forget the fragileness--the guy constantly showing up his dmen and throwing his hands in the air rivaled Mike Smith. I know he just wanted to win, but one reason I hold Quick in such high regard is he has literally NEVER done that (actually he did it exactly once--and I cant remember the dman but he was off the team like immediately haha), just took full responsibility the whole time, didn't look to someone to bail him out. That mental edge is why he was better head to head.

Coyotes need a social distancing champions banner...

Yeah but those pictures are form 2017...

The dirt dogs will end up in East side Phoenix. Everyone lives on the westside and works in the Eastside of town and they have to commute back and forth for games or some refuse like that. I know that as of today Quebec's top investment group is looking to purchase their own new franchise. It would be great if the dogs moved to Quebec but I don't think that will be possible.

Wow, all the kids made the same play... do work, son.

To be expected, Powers/Beniers both experience lament that their freshman year college experience (off and on the ice) was abnormal because of covid. They both seemed to want to go through a normal school year socially while also getting to play in front of home fans. I went to a game at Michigan in 2012 and that was one of the most fun atmospheres I've been around for a hockey game. Mix in how they had to forfeit their tournament game last year because of some positive covid tests and I could only imagine that being a bitter way to end your college career. Power didn't get a chance to compete for a WJC spot last year because of the quarantine restrictions on both sides, so he'll get a chance to be a cornerstone player this year and the tournament will be in Canada.

Looking a bit too far down the schedule, I did find this possibility interesting for Power. The Frozen Four would be April 7th and 9th. In a storybook world, Michigan could win on the 9th and Power could meet the Sabres on April 12th and make his NHL debut against the Leafs in his de facto hometown.

...and they still won't win it all.

Yeah it's funny how college hockey works sometimes. The eventual champs most years aren't the programs with NHL bound freshmen/sophomores but instead more physically mature juniors/seniors who might not ever make the show.

Yeah, I’d wanna get immersed into the student body for a spell after a tough couple years ” …

… once you go pro it’s a different set of rules.

anyone know where I can put some $$ down for Michigan to win it all

In early 2011, I was in Vegas for a hockey tournament and was staying at the (now former) Las Vegas Hilton. Dropped by their sportsbook and found that they were offering college hockey bets. The more prominent teams were like Michigan, BU, Notre Dame were getting 12-1 odds but I spotted Miami of Ohio at 30-1. I was by no means a college hockey guru, but Miami held its own against Michigan and Notre Dame back when they were all in the CCHA conference.

So for fun, I put $20 on Miami. My buddy showed up a few minutes later and I told him of the bet. So he put $20 on Miami. A third friend showed up and he decided he wanted to jump on the bandwagon. Comically they initially refused to take his bet and the worker called over a pit boss. I guess he was worried that we had some inside information or something, but eventually they took my friend's money.

Miami promptly went on a winning streak to end the season to win the conference and was a #1 seed in the national tournament. I'll be forever bitter that they were the #1 seed in the bracket hosted in New Hampshire and their first round opponent was the University of New Hampshire who basically got a home game. UNH got the upset win. I'd learn after the fact that the guy who got the game winning goal (Mike Sislo, had a cup of coffee with the Devils) is my coworker's cousin.

I'd be guessing that the odds for Michigan this season aren't great from a betting perspective. I found it odd that junior goalie (and team captain) Strauss Mann opted to turn pro and play in Sweden instead of returning for his senior year. They'll be handing the reins over to Buffalo draft pick Erik Portillo who has more prototypical size than Mann, but is relatively untested.
