Bettman licking his chops at the chance to move Winnipeg to Houston.
Houston has everything ready to go except for the person who controls the Toyota Center (Tilman Fertitia) being prepared to pay the $1 billion plus for an NHL team.

He balked at $500 mill - $650 mill that LV And SEA paid.

Would someone else be ok with being a tenant at Toyota Center like the Celtics and Sixers of the nba are? Though the Sixers have put in plans with the city to build a new arena for themselves.

Crazy that I am going quite possibly the last Jets regular season game against the Canucks.

Jets seemed to have both gouged and taken their fanbase for granted. Plus they dropped the ball with the corporate base. Moment you see a few not renew, you have to take action not let 2/3 of that base not renew…

I see Travis green has worked his infectious magic on njd..

Embarrassing stuff from lindy ruff, I'd fire him immediately after a pathetic cop out like that.

There's always been a double standard in the NHL when it comes to smaller-market Canadian teams.

Bettman is in the 'Peg for a fireside chat with Jets brass about the state of the franchise. Meantime in Phoenix, the last iteration of Jets is playing in a 1980's college arena, appropriately named the 'Mullet Arena'.

For the last decade and half there's been just white noise about building a new NHL arena somewhere in the Phoenix area--but so far just a lot of hot air, of which the desert is so famous.

The first NHL franchise to load up the moving van should be the Coyotes. But Benning won't have it.

Have you been to Winnipeg? It's like you accidentally copied and pasted Saskatoon twice. I never saw them surviving in the modern NHL, there's just not enough fans or money and people's attention is divided between too many recreational opportunities, many of which no longer require people to leave their houses. In the long term every small Canadian market is in danger, and the NHL is never coming back to Quebec City.

There's a reason why the Jets failed the first time.

Unfortunately, some markets just cannot sustain an NHL team for the long haul.
NHL model isn't the NFL where TV money covers all player contracts. Otherwise, GB would not be around (especially if they didn't have their history. I mean, if they were the Lions, would they have survived to now?)

Jets need the owner to basically be willing to break even over the long haul.

The Jets aren't gonna move guys. Chipman and True North own the team and aren't gonna sell.

Bettman is going there to make it sound scary so that Winnipegers buy some more tickets. That is all.

Pretty much.

They have solid ownership and there will be a lot of effort put into turning things around there before they pack up and leave.
