Imagine if Vegas uses this LTIR space to somehow trade for both Guentzel and Smith

Playoff lineup:

Guentzel - Eichel - Stone
Marchessault - Karlsson - Smith
Barbashev - Stephenson - Roy

With Theodore/Pietrangelo/McNabb/Hague/Martinez/Whitecloud on the blueline
would be such a joke

Hand wringing about cap circumvention sounds like crybaby talk.
Vegas is far from the first, and certainly not the last team to use LTIR, and if mik went on ltir until game one playoffs canucks fans would be pumped to use the cap space before tdl.

You gotta wonder how someone like David Goyette falls to the 2nd round. Put up 90 points in 60 games in his draft year and now he's leading the OHL in scoring. He's not even that small at 5'11".

73 points in his draft year … but yeah. I had him as a 1st rounder as his production relative to the shitty team around him was probably the most eye-popping since Draisaitl.

Seattle has gotten back to back steals with Goyette and now Rehkoph. They’ve got a really strong prospect pool.

A couple big hits in the 2nd/3rd round (also Firkus) but Sale is a total dud and Wright has major issues.
What issues? He looks like he's had a decent season so far: 32 points in 43 games. Is it a character thing?

Yeah he had 73 points in 63 games draft year. 90 points in 54 games is not super special in draft +2 season. He is on the smaller side and will not play center in the NHL. Quentin Musty has a higher ppg was one of the youngest player in his draft year is the player other than Dvorsky than impresses me in Sudbury.

I’ll just re-post what I wrote on the prospect board a couple weeks ago:

I’ve watched him play 7 or 8 games this year between NHL preseason and AHL games vs. Abbotsford.

His shot should play in the NHL. It’s a laser. And he has a goal scorer’s instincts to find seams and space to get that shot off.

His compete level and defensive play is … not good, even allowing for the fact that he’s an underage AHLer. Long stretches of play where he just seems to be floating around anonymously and then he’ll get one chance and bury it.

To me he projects as a complimentary sniping winger. I’ll be a bit surprised if he sticks at C in the NHL. I wouldn’t be surprised if he scores 30 goals at some point from the wing. I also wouldn’t be shocked if his lack of motor/compete busts him entirely.

I think watching this game it shows how important speed is and depth speed is for offense. I personally would be sitting aman over lafferty for that alone.

We don't have any really fast players that are in our top 6 outside hoglander who is somewhat fast, and then you have aman, and suter, who are not burners either. If you are going to roll a top 6 with lindholm, boeser, Petey and miller you really need to have speed everywhere else.

I also like how they play a north south game, everything is directed at the net, for some reason tocchet has this team playing around the boards and more east west. When we enter the zone it often goes side to side then around the boards for a 50/50 puck battle. I'd like to see more directed at the net personally.
This. When the power play isn't working, fire more shots at the net. Depend on stick leg and skate deflections. And rebounds. Not as sexy as setting up EP for the blast, but when we are having troubles ....

Wonder if other teams saw that exact same thing and that's why he dropped. Would explain a lot

Sale was my DND under any circumstances. I did not like his IQ and overall skill level. Has a pretty decent shot but not much else in his toolbox. I had him outside of the 1st round and I actually was kind of shocked he was taken at 20.

Not too familiar with how Wright has progressed but he’s never really impressed me prior to this season either. From what I can remember, there’s a lot of Ryan Strome to his game. Strome has turned out to be a decent center (not sure if he even is a full time center still) but that certainly wasn’t the case early on. Just an overall middling talent that could be a decent 2nd line guy, or completely just bust into oblivion. In Strome’s case I guess it worked out for him. Although Strome had the better skating ability by far.

Probably yeah. And it looks like they got it right.

Wright reminds me of Boeser a bit and you can’t play like Boeser at C.

I didn’t like Sale at all either at the U18s and didn’t understand the hype at all. Looked like a carbon copy of Nikita Scherbak, perimeter player, not a lot of IQ there.

I would caution being dismissive of Sale just yet. He's got the toolbox, even if he does not have a stand out trait. That's why he was drafted in the first round. Edit: He does coast though. Has to pick up his work rate/intensity.

No one should overemphasize first year performance of any player, in any league.

i think the kraken took sale too high but he's never really played at a high level or had high level coaching. he's got all the tools he needs to succeed as a pro and he could really pop off as he moves up levels
