Such a big difference when the oilers play bruins compared to us playing bruins. This team is still ways away from being contenders.

Why wouldn't you?

Despite the fact that they lack a goalie and it's coming around to bite them in the ass, yet again, they aren't a garbage tier team.

Every team has ups and downs. Recall we lost to San Jose. Does that mean we're 'on par' with them?
You're using one game compared to a team that started 3-9-1

You think the oilers team at the beginning and the one now playing the same?

Ah, okay.

I'll let Bettman know that we can strike the last 3 games from the record. Since this wasn't the Canucks who were playing lights out at the start of the season.

Evan Bouchard! Shades of Quinn Hughes

What a game

If that was a Canuck crosschecking someone on the 5-5 goal it would be a penalty for sure...but I guess not for McDavid.

Also, some pretty bad goaltending by Swayman in the 3rd there.

I think watching this game it shows how important speed is and depth speed is for offense. I personally would be sitting aman over lafferty for that alone.

We don't have any really fast players that are in our top 6 outside hoglander who is somewhat fast, and then you have aman, and suter, who are not burners either. If you are going to roll a top 6 with lindholm, boeser, Petey and miller you really need to have speed everywhere else.

I also like how they play a north south game, everything is directed at the net, for some reason tocchet has this team playing around the boards and more east west. When we enter the zone it often goes side to side then around the boards for a 50/50 puck battle. I'd like to see more directed at the net personally.

sick goal

Anyways, thank god for Demko, having a good roster with no real goalie is a horror movie, see : Edmonton

I believe in the last 8 games for their goaltenders they haven't had a SV% reach 0.900. Skinners numbers his last 6 starts are back to being shocking.

This is a very bizarre scouting report here. Aman is the worst player out of this group because he's not skilled enough and can't make enough plays, not because he's "not fast".

Hoglander's game is about being feisty and controlling the puck on the boards. Not a burning speed game. He's not particularly fast and doesn't have great separation ability.

The point about not throwing everything at the net is why this team is successful and also a point everyone uses that the Canucks can sustain a higher shooting percentage: They don't throw away pucks and wait until a good chance presents itself.

Your post was like backwards land.

Are these boards really back to any reasonable criticism or concern about the team somehow being turned into polemic hate speech? Dam that is tiresome.

It's so much better when the conversation plays out like the one above between Orca Smash and Bossram. A perspective is shared and then a rebuttal posted disagreeing with the opinion with a well reasoned argument. I personally feel like I agreed with both when I read them and I actually think more about the team and my own perspective.

Post what you want, but my God some here look like idiots for being so overly testy about differences in opinions. How freaking sheltered do we need to be?

And yes, I'm an idiot at times for being over dramatic when the team loses. It's difficult not to be when you want them to win so badly. I know where it comes from.

If we're going to act like we're being on objective then I think we'd be best served by not proposing this myth that in 2022 - 2023 most Canuck fans were demanding a complete rebuild.

There were different approaches to building the team around the best / youngest players on the roster and a lot of discussion around high end guys like JT Miller. Yes, there were a few posters who were sure everything needed to go and it would be best to start from scratch. They were far from the majority.

My take away is how vital having an intelligent, functional management group heading up the organization. The rest almost seems too much like luck. Why does a team end up playing better than its individual parts?

What A&R have put together with this team borders on wizardry, and I'm not certain I've witnessed so many players join a team and thrive like this. Yes, LA on their cup runs is another outlier, but I don't think they had as large a roster make over. Their trade deadline was excellent and won them two cups.

Anyhow, calling fans stupid after a decade of frustration isn't well thought out Imo, particularly in light of how sound many of those same posters were in their evaluation of Benning moves.

I was fearful of the kind of moves management were making (or not making), but time has proven them correct and now I'm enjoying what hung and waiting for what they'll do next.

I'll have to add the caveat that I'm still of the mind that the team isn't nearly as good as their record, so am trying to temper expectations for the post season. As it is, I can't stand it when they lose any games, which is crazy, but I seem to be wired that way. It's only well after the game is over there's any ability to be pragmatic about a game. I'm really enjoying the fact that's less of an issue this season!
you're right. most Canucks fans were pointing to what a "good core" we had and that even included Horvat. At worst, we were talking tanking to improve our chances to get Bedard which no one thought was a realistic possibility.

Of course VGK are circumventing the Cap again. It worked for 3 out of 4 of the last SC winners, why not do it again?

Watch Eichel and Stone be back for Game 1 of the 1st round.

It's in the rules it's not circumvention.

And, well, it's a lacerated spleen! (which my google doctoring suggests is 2-3 month recovery. i.e. Stone wouldn't be back any appreciable time before playoffs anyways).

Also, as I have said many times Kucherov (and Pastrnak) came back sooner than expected for the surgery he had. more than a month quicker than Seguin or Point. Kucherov had his surgery end of December it was ambitious to make it back for playoffs. And skating with the team for a few weeks does not equal ready to return. And his skating sucked when he did return. People complain about sending him for surgery in December but you do not take that surgical option as anything but a last resort. It carries with it potentially career ending complications.

Imagine if Vegas uses this LTIR space to somehow trade for both Guentzel and Smith

Playoff lineup:

Guentzel - Eichel - Stone
Marchessault - Karlsson - Smith
Barbashev - Stephenson - Roy

With Theodore/Pietrangelo/McNabb/Hague/Martinez/Whitecloud on the blueline
