Oh absolutely. After my viewing session, there is no way you want Tage as the 1C of a legitimate team.

People are complaining about Petey. Trying watching Tage closely for a couple games. Yikes.

And Benson is gonna be so good. If he picks up his skating a little bit, he is Brayden Point.
Hence why they might trade for Pettersson. Or an offer sheet. This is the thing, so many teams (29) can do an offer sheet and that is extremely bad for the Canucks.

Young GM's might not because of the ramifications around the "old boys club" of being ostracized later but there are many old GM's, like Davidson, who are not GM's and close to retiring or taking on a "mentor" type role where breaking the "code" will not have an affect on the team that he does that for.

Never before have there been so many of the old boys club on the verge of retirement so offer sheets might become the last legacy that turns a franchise around. If Buffalo or Columbus did this they would build a statue for that GM/President and get into the HoF.

I hope fans realize that Pettersson's numbers are better than Eichel's so his contract could easily bury the Canucks and use up most of his best years building a team encumbered with clause contracts aging veterans and no cap space for 4 years more. Other teams have more younger star level players under contract control than the Canucks. For the Canucks it is a rebuild, for others it is the next or last step in a build because all the other pieces have been there for 2+ years already.

No prospects playing now to replace Miller or even Boeser who IMO does little other than stand there to score a goal. A valuable skill but not worth the 6.67 million he gets paid especially when the team ran off a player with just as much goal scoring ability and more useful than Boeser. Ever see Boeser scoring when not playing on the PP or with Miller and Petey? Or set up play after play to a player with stone hands like Kuz was doing.

Thompson was legit last year but he's been a mess this year and his ES production has fallen literally in half.

They could try to trade for Pettersson, but Allvin should absolutely not accept Tage as the centerpiece. I know the midseason injury is probably hampering things, but he is one of the worst players defensively in the league.

An offer sheet would be an absolute gift to the Canucks. An automatic Petey signing. Honestly doesn't really matter what the price is, you just match it.

I 100% understand what you're saying about the Canucks' contract situations relative to their competitive window. It's not ideal. I've been one of the more vocal ones on this board about that. They have Petey, Demko, and Hughes expiring consecutively and it's hard to build a contender when you don't have cost certainty (and cost escalation in the Canucks' case) of your core players. But unless they want to rebuild, they don't have a choice. They have to pay them.

The production has fallen off but he's always been abysmal defensively, including (and especially) last season.

Okay.
First off is the fact that it got to the point where Petey wants an offer sheet, he has to sign it remember meaning that is what he wants.
Next is because he accepted the offer sheet at all indicates a desire to be elsewhere.
So he gets a one or two year offer sheet, IMO a 2 year is worse but anyway, a one year offer of 16 million. Where do the Canucks get the money and then what about next year when he is a FA with no compensation? And even less if any trade leverage.
He has already indicated a desire to be elsewhere and if the Canucks matched they would have to decimate the team even more just for one or two years of keeping him.

Also that amount of money would cripple the team for years. A total rebuild immediately making the odds of Hronek, Hughes or Demko sticking around for another 7 years unlikely at best.

The price? The entire team, losing for another 10 years because there is still not enough depth or highly skilled prospects.

Whereas a trade ideas to say Columbus.
Voronkov, Marchenko and Chinakhov plus two 1rst's.
Buffalo;
Mittelstat, Cozens, Power and 1rst, not as good a Columbus but better.

I'm not well read in drug addiction behaviours but I'm not sure that here is a difference. My understanding is that the NHL/PA's approach is clearly to treat drug addiction rather than penalize it. I don't think the perception necessarily changes if Ruzicka comes out and seeks help now after this incident where he went and posted on social media etc. vs having sought help earlier.

Recreational drugs are tested but there's nothing in the CBA that specifically penalizes or prohibits a player from taking recreational drugs such as cocaine. In fact, only if a player tests positive with a dangerously high level of say cocaine would you even see a referral to the NHL substance abuse program. The reasonings have been discussed and reported when Kuznetsov was caught. I don't believe anything has changed since then.

Bettman has the power to discipline players for off-ice conduct that is "detrimental to or against the welfare of the league or the game of hockey." But again, consider the fact that Ruzcika has less than half a year left on his contract, the NHL/PA should work out a situation where Ruzcika enters the substance abuse program and gets paid the remainder of his salary. There's also a chance that Ruzcika denies that he took cocaine.

I can't see how the PA doesn't appeal a contract termination.
Maybe arizona interviewed him and didnt like the response

Maybe they already talked to the union

Maybe he refused help

Lots of scenarios that warrant a gtfo card

Yep that sounds about right. Get the hell out of our organization follow the process if you want to fight it out and be done with it

But that’s not the point though. The point is that there’s nothing in the CBA that allows the Coyotes to just terminate his contract without pay. Cocaine use is not prohibited and obviously the contract termination isn’t coming on the heels of a criminal charge either.

Then he can appeal it. He can follow that process while going through the exit door. He has plenty of time to decide.

The PA probably will. I don’t see why not. It’s not a good look for the league. They need to come up with a solution/more guidance.

I wonder how Horvat is enjoying the "not making the playoffs anytime soon" atmosphere at UBS Arena? that team is fooked

I've used cocaine before and while I didn't do any loser shit like this, I might have been tempted if I had any sort of following, was high enough, and was dumber than I am. But I was never an "addict" at any point or even used it for consecutive weekends or more than maybe 3-4 times a year. My point is that this guy isn't necessarily an addict and doesn't necessarily have a problem beyond being stupid. Sometimes people are just dumb and irresponsible and there's no identifiable cause that you can do anything about. He may not need any help from the NHLPA. Maybe he can and should get a job elsewhere after making some sort of bullshit public apology. Then he can do coke at clubs where you get thrown out and your phone smashed for filming anyone, as his coworkers presumably do.
