Benning basically said they were going after Stamkos, even though there's no chance in hell Stamkos signs there. It could drive his price up even more. Benning might be delusional enough to think they have a shot though. I guess you're not allowed to speak about signing UFA's publicly.
 
I feel suckered for buying into all the trade hype.

I think Rutherford said it best, it's a media creation to fabricate interest.

I know people hear things but I'm sure gms talk all the time and the majority of deals never come to fruition.

Wake me up after free agency is over.

I'll give DL some time but I don't see any course alterations yet.

From what I've read, even the general managers were surprised at how quiet it ended up being. Reasons given for the relative lack of action were the cap not going up very much and expansion draft fears/preparation.

What I find hilarious is how people start getting upset at DL or whomever their GM is for "not doing anything" because there is no news coming out for a day or two when we have NO IDEA how hard the GMs are working it. It's almost like people would rather see a bad deal or signing instead of nothing at all.

Yep. I am interested to see how this deal does affect other RFAs around the league that need contracts (lookin' at you, Kucherov!)

Even though they're at different points in their contract status, Toffoli and Forsberg are pretty similar goal wise over the past 2 years. I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if Toffoli got a contract very similar to Forsberg

He did try to acquire him (and Teddy Purcell) at the trade deadline. I don't know if they think they can polish him up, he is still 25 with four seasons of pro experience playing for the worst team, and going on to a Cup winning team this season.

If he could be had for a bargain and play a bottom pairing role, it might not be a bad option. Certainly can't be worse than McBain, could he?

Defensively, he very well could be worse than McBain.

He was raised in a run-and-gun style of play with Edmonton.

Would much rather go with Forbort or Gravel.
